We are currently seeking a candidate for the following vacancy:
Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanical/Generator Technician will perform diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on diesel, propane, natural gas-powered generators across residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This position requires strong knowledge of diesel engine, field service experience, and possession of a valid Ontario 310T license. This role is additionally accountable for responding to service calls and complex repairs. The Technician will be part of the on-call schedule.
Position Responsibilities
- Conduct required building load and capacity tests, specific to the site equipment.
- Inspect generators and perform maintenance requirements outlined in CSA C282 Standard.
- Diagnose engine, control panel, ATS, and electrical issues using schematics and diagnostic equipment.
- Keep detailed logs of maintenance, parts usage, and safety audits.
- Accurately troubleshoot generator issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards (WHMIS, lockout/tagout, etc.) and environmental regulations.
- Assist with ongoing shop work and attend workshop training.
- Perform ATS cleaning and quinquennial service.
- Set-up and tear down of equipment required for performing maintenance, including building load and full capacity tests.
- Inspect generators for any leaks or other issues, checking fuel lines and with changing oil and filters.
- Ensure that all service requests and emergency calls are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Complete service work order forms and obtain signatures from Customers.
- Submit service work information to Schedulers.
- Perform diagnosis and repairs of generator and transfer switch equipment.
- Take and upload photographs of the conditions of the generators at Customer Site.
- Review diagnostic recommendations and timelines with Technical Advisor.
- Respond to emergency service calls for complex repairs.
- Maintain clean work environment, both in-house and on client/customer sites.
- Ability to mentor and train other Service Technicians.
- Adhere to all safety practices and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Establish and maintain good relationships with Customers to achieve customer satisfaction and exceed their expectations.
- Maintain the company vehicle to ensure it remains in safe and operational condition.
- Report any mechanical issues, accidents, or concerns promptly to your Manager.
- Adhere to all provincial traffic laws, and safety regulations while operating the company vehicle.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or diploma in diesel/truck/coach technology preferred.
- Ontario 310S/310T license is a must
- At least 5+ years working with diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment, preferably generators.
- Mechanically inclined with strong understanding of electrical/mechanical skills.
- Full understanding of the most current CSA C282 standards.
- Certified on residential and industrial generators is an asset.
- Internal combustion certificate is an asset.
- Licensed mechanic/electrician is an asset.
- Detail oriented and takes pride in their work.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Hardworking & self-motivated.
- Comfortable in a high pressure & fast paced work environment.
- Consistent quality workmanship.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and occasionally more.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and outside of normal business hours.
- May be required to work in confined spaces.
