Role Description The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site position based in Brampton, ON. This role is responsible for leading the mechanical design of automated inspection systems, including concept development, detailed design, and optimization of machines and subassemblies. Day-to-day tasks include creating and reviewing 3D models and drawings, performing engineering calculations, selecting mechanical components, and ensuring manufacturability and serviceability. The engineer will collaborate closely with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams to integrate robotics, optical systems, and automated mechanisms into cohesive solutions. Responsibilities also include guiding junior engineers and designers, supporting prototype builds and testing, addressing design issues on the production floor, and contributing to continuous improvement of design standards and processes.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, with experience applying mechanical principles to automated machinery and industrial equipment.
- Proficiency in Design Engineering and Machine Design, including kinematics, motion systems, mechanisms, and structural design for automated inspection equipment.
- Experience in Product Design and development, from concept through prototyping, testing, and design refinement for manufacturability and reliability.
- Advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills, including 3D modeling, detailed drawings, tolerance stack-ups, and BOM creation using industry-standard CAD tools.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in industrial automation, robotics, or machine-building environments, preferably involving quality inspection or optical systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant standards and safety guidelines, and to work hands-on with prototypes, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor less-experienced team members and work effectively in cross-functional project teams.
Pay: $105,000.00-$125,000.00 per year
