Full job description

Purpose of the Position:The Education Coordinator leads the development of education plans for patients, healthcare professionals (HCPs), and the community in collaboration with the Quality-of-Life (QOL) and Research Committees, as well as chapter coordinators.

Working Environment:The Education Coordinator will work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment involving multiple collaborators, external stakeholders, and tight deadlines. The incumbent must maintain professionalism and efficiency while working with limited supervision, demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, and strong communication skills.

Position Type, Compensation, and Work Schedule:

This is an independent contractor position (not an employee role). The contract is based on 30 hours per week at a rate of $27–$30 per hour. Compensation is provided based on hours worked and deliverables completed.
This role does not provide employee benefits and does not support permanent residency (PR) sponsorship.
Services are delivered in-person at the SCAGO office or other service locations for 3 days per week, with remaining work completed remotely. Tuesdays are mandatory for in-person attendance; additional in-person days will be determined based on operational needs.
The incumbent will also be required to support educational and/or psychosocial events on Saturdays, as needed.

Please note:

This is an independent contractor role. Compensation is based on the number of hours worked. This position does not include employee benefits, paid leave, or other entitlements associated with full-time employment.

Benefits

Performance-based bonus: An additional 10% of total hourly earnings, paid at the end of the yearly contract.

Reporting Relationship

The Education Coordinator will work closely with a multidisciplinary team and report directly to the Executive Lead. The incumbent will carry out responsibilities as outlined in this job description and as assigned. Monthly reports outlining progress, achievements, logged hours, and activity summaries are required.

Role Expectations

Lead the development of the education work plan for patients, healthcare professionals, and the community
Collaborate with the Quality-of-Life (QOL) Committee to inform and strengthen education programming
Evaluate programs through participant feedback and surveys
Provide monthly and quarterly reports
Ensure all communications and records are maintained confidentially and securely
Develop and facilitate SCAGO’s patient education curriculum (Learning for Life)
Implement creative and responsive educational initiatives tailored to the needs of the sickle cell community
Maintain regular communication with patients, families, and stakeholders to improve access to programs
Work closely with chapter coordinators to deliver programming across the province, including webinars and community sessions
Provide oversight to the Health Care Professional E-course Coordinator
Liaise with schools, faith-based organizations, and community partners to expand education and outreach efforts

Additional Responsibilities

Coordinate and lead meetings with hospital partners, ensuring strong relationship management and ongoing collaboration
Ensure bi-annual hospital meetings are scheduled, tracked, and completed, including timely follow-up
Prepare comprehensive, structured meeting minutes and distribute follow-up communications after each engagement
Organize and coordinate clinician-focused educational initiatives, including virtual Lunch & Learn series
Support planning and execution of SCAGO’s Annual Summit and other large-scale educational events
Demonstrate strong presentation and facilitation skills, including moderating sessions and engaging diverse audiences

Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in healthcare, education, or a related field with at least 3 years of adult learning experience

2. Bilingualism is an asset

3. Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience in healthcare, education, or curriculum development

4. Strong communication, problem-solving, time management, and documentation skills

5. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

6. Self-motivated with the ability to manage a dynamic and varied workload

7. Experience working with racialized communities or patient organizations is an asset

8. Experience delivering virtual education and/or telehealth programming

Pay: $27.00-$30.00 per hour
