Full job description

The Adult Recreation Therapy Centre is a not-for-profit community support service located in Brantford and Brant County. The ARTC Adult Day Program provides therapeutic and recreational programs and services of interest to meet the needs of older adults and adults with morbidities, including stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, frail, isolated, early stages of cognitive impairment and other chronic conditions associated with aging.

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Full-Time/18-Month Contract Recreation Therapist (37.5 hrs./wk.) to join our team at our Brantford location. Contract anticipated from October 2026 to April 2028.

As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for researching, planning, and implementing therapeutic, recreational activities and programs for clients attending the day program and client care management. Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement therapeutic, recreational programs of client interest to promote physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being.

· Document progress and maintain accurate records of everyone’s participation and attendance.

· Provide personal assistance to clients in need of additional support.

· Client Care Management - including goal setting, review, and navigation.

· Collaborate with staff, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to client care.

· Supervise/mentor students and volunteers, providing feedback and evaluation.

· Additional Duties as delegated.

Regular working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:00pm, with some weekend and evening availability.

Qualifications:

· Degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy or related field

· Experience and knowledge working with older adults and adults with morbidities

· Familiarity with medical terminology and understanding of various medical conditions

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

· Current Vulnerable Sector Police Screening

· Current First Aid/CPR certified, level C

· Computer Skills, including Microsoft Office Apps, Activity Pro, Zoom, EMHware (an asset)

· Leadership, organization and time management skills

· Problem solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess situations and prioritize work
