Reporting to: Child Care Manager

Team: YMCA Child Care team (educators and leaders)

Location: Penticton – Queens Park Elementary and Uplands Elementary

Schedule: On-call, Monday–Friday between 7:30am–6:00pm

This role is ideal for someone who is flexible, enjoys variety, and is passionate about supporting children’s development in a fun and engaging environment.

What You Will Do

As an On Call Child Care Substitute, you will support high-quality program delivery:

Assist in planning and delivering programs aligned with YMCA values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring, Inclusiveness)

Maintain safety and supervision in accordance with licensing requirements

Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues

Engage with children ages 1–12 as a play partner and homework helper

Support play-based learning including literacy, math, science, creative play, and physical activity

Promote inclusive, respectful interactions among children

Participate in YMCA community initiatives

What You Bring

Minimum age of 19 (as per licensing standards) or ECE Assistant certification

Minimum 20 hours of training in child development, safety, or related fields (Responsible Adult Certificate)

Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR Level B or C

ECE-A, ECE, or Infant/Toddler certification (asset)

Reliable transportation

Valid Class 4 driver’s license (asset)

Additional Requirements

Provide three professional references

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (within 6 months of start date)

Completion of YMCA training and onboarding requirements
