We are currently accepting applications from CVRD CUPE Local 556 members only for a permanent full-time Diversion and Operations Support Coordinator to join our team. Reporting to the Manager of CSWM Operations, the primary responsibilities of this role include:
Supporting the administration, operation and maintenance of the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre (CVWMC), including landfill, diversion, leachate, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and equipment management.
Coordinating scale operations and the HHW program to ensure consistent service delivery and accurate operational data.
Managing financial and administrative processes, including cash reconciliation, payment systems, billing support, reporting and procurement.
Coordinating operational support activities, contractor services, site permits, and minor capital projects to maintain efficient facility operations.
Supporting environmental compliance, occupational health and safety initiatives, staff training, and continuous improvement of operational procedures.
Preparing reports, statistical analyses and annual reporting to support landfill operations, waste diversion programs and stewardship initiatives.
Providing technical, operational and customer service support while interpreting policies, procedures, regulations and bylaws for staff, contractors and the public.
Building collaborative relationships with internal departments, contractors, external agencies and community partners while supporting communication and waste reduction initiatives.
Our ideal candidate is:
Experienced in municipal solid waste operations, environmental services, or a related operational environment.
Knowledgeable in landfill operations, recycling, household hazardous waste, waste diversion programs, and applicable environmental regulations and best practices.
Highly organized with strong financial administration skills, including cash handling, reconciliation and records management.
Comfortable learning and troubleshooting specialized software and proficient with Microsoft Office and other business applications.
A strong communicator with excellent customer service and relationship-building skills who can confidently work with staff, contractors and the public.
Able to interpret policies, regulations and procedures while exercising sound judgment and professionalism in challenging situations.
Committed to workplace safety, environmental stewardship and continuous improvement.
Self-motivated, adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required for this role. Successful candidates will be required to consent to a Canadian Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector search if applicable).
This is a CUPE Local 556/ position with a current wage rate of $42.66.
