Why IREN?
IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN's platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
This position is based on-site in Prince George, BC. The site operates seven days a week; scheduling and rotation are negotiable, and we'll work with the successful candidate to find the right fit.
The Role
The Construction Superintendent – Mechanical owns all mechanical construction activities on a data center project featuring advanced high-performance computing technologies, high-density liquid cooling, and redundant mechanical infrastructure. Our facilities are, at their core, power and cooling projects with a building around them – and this role leads the cooling side: ensuring mechanical systems are installed, tested, flushed, and commissioned to meet project requirements, industry standards, and operational reliability demands. You'll collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors to drive quality, safety, and efficiency across the project lifecycle.
- Project Oversight: Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of all mechanical construction activities – chilled water plants, liquid cooling loops, CDUs, cooling towers, pumps, hydronic piping, and HVAC systems.
- Technical Leadership: Review and interpret mechanical design documents, P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment schedules, specifications, and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry best practices.
- Trade Supervision: Directly lead pipefitting, plumbing, HVAC, insulation, and millwright trades – enforcing schedule, quality, and safety day-to-day on site.
- Coordination: Interface with electrical, civil, and IT/Network teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with power distribution and data center operations.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and quality installation.
- Commissioning & Testing: Oversee pressure testing, flushing, chemical treatment, start-up, and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring reliability and uptime targets are met through structured turnover.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all mechanical work adheres to CSA, ASME, NFPA, and local codes, as well as internal safety and quality standards. Own the site safety record for your scope.
- Scheduling & Budget Control: Track progress and manage schedules to ensure project milestones are achieved within budget and timeline.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to mechanical infrastructure, redundancy, and system reliability.
- Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear updates to project leadership, clients, and stakeholders on progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Flexible scheduling available. The site operates seven days a week, and the exact schedule is negotiable. We’ll work with the successful candidate to find the right fit.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical construction management on heavy industrial or mission-critical projects (data centers, LNG, power generation, mining, petrochemical, or similar).
- Proven track record managing large-scale mechanical scopes from installation through commissioning, with direct site authority over multi-trade crews.
- Strong understanding of chilled water systems, liquid cooling technologies, pumps, cooling towers, hydronic piping, HVAC, and mechanical redundancy concepts.
- Hands-on commissioning experience: pressure testing, flushing, system walkdowns, punch, RFSU, and structured turnover.
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (CSA, ASME, NFPA, BC Building Code).
- Red Seal trade certification (Steamfitter/Pipefitter, Plumber, Millwright, or Refrigeration Mechanic), engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple contractors and align them to project goals.
- Ability to work on-site in Prince George, BC on a rotational schedule – camp/remote-site experience an asset.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in data center construction and commissioning, or comparable MEP-dense environments.
- Experience with structured completions platforms (e.g., Smart Completions) and turnover of tagged systems.
- PMP certification or Gold Seal designation an asset.
- Work with state-of-the-art AI hardware and some of the most advanced compute systems in the world
- Be part of a team that values innovation, autonomy, and continuous learning
- Make a measurable impact on the performance and reliability of global AI workloads
