Mechanical Engineer (Piping)

Mitchell Installations Ltd. is a General / Mechanical Contractor specializing in heavy industrial construction. Our primary area of expertise is the fabrication and installation of industrial piping systems for clients in power generation, municipal water and wastewater treatment, petroleum, chemical, pulp and paper, and other industrial facilities.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Piping) to join our project team. This position is focused on industrial construction and project execution rather than engineering design. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, supervisors, tradespeople, clients, vendors, and subcontractors to support the successful execution of industrial piping projects.

This role is well suited to engineers who enjoy practical, hands-on involvement in industrial projects and would like to apply their technical knowledge in a construction environment. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced project managers, supervisors, tradespeople, clients, and vendors to help solve technical and logistical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada is not required, as this position does not involve engineering design or professional engineering responsibilities.

Internationally educated engineers with relevant industrial piping, process plant, power generation, manufacturing, or construction experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Become familiar with project drawings, specifications, contract documents, and customer requirements.
Assist the project team with interpretation of drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
Prepare RFIs and coordinate follow-up actions after customer responses are received.
Perform material takeoffs and prepare material requisitions and purchase lists.
Review customer specifications and coordinate with suppliers to obtain technical information for materials and equipment.
Prepare fabrication sketches, cut lists, and work packages for fabrication shop and field personnel.
Create and maintain redline drawings and as-built documentation based on field reviews and measurements.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation including RFIs, fabrication sketches, work packages, material requisitions, submittals, and as-built documentation.
Maintain project documentation, including drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, change notices, and other project records.
Coordinate subcontractor activities and track progress against project schedules.
Assist with troubleshooting technical issues encountered during construction.
Prepare estimates and pricing for extra work and changes in scope.
Coordinate with customers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities as required.
Participate in project meetings and communicate technical information to the project team.
Contribute ideas for improving company processes and project execution.

Qualifications

Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent.
Experience with industrial piping systems, process plants, mechanical construction, manufacturing facilities, or similar industrial environments is preferred.
Experience in heavy industrial construction is considered a significant asset.
Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering, industrial, construction, manufacturing, or project-related experience preferred.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and P&IDs.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Bluebeam is an asset.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a project team.
