Head Coach of Girls Soccer
Reports To: Technical Director – Girls
Supervises: All Girls’ Program Coaches (Developmental & Competitive)
Location: Port Moody, BC
Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week (combination of on-field coaching, coach support, administration, and weekend programming)
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Employment Status: Full-time employee, subject to applicable employment standards legislation in British Columbia
Position Overview
Port Moody Soccer Club is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head Coach of Girls Soccer to lead the day-to-day delivery and coaching execution of all girls’ programs within the club.
Reporting directly to the Technical Director – Girls, this role is responsible for implementing the club’s technical philosophy, curriculum, and long-term player development framework on the field, while supporting coaches, players, and families across all age groups and competitive levels.
This position works in close collaboration with the Technical Director – Girls. The Technical Director retains responsibility for technical strategy, pathway governance, evaluations, and overall technical standards, while remaining actively hands-on with teams.
Purpose of the Role
To ensure high-quality, consistent, and inclusive delivery of girls’ soccer programming by translating the club’s technical vision into effective daily training environments, match-day leadership, and coach mentorship.
Role Alignment & Structure (Important)
- The Technical Director – Girls sets the technical vision, pathway standards, evaluation frameworks, and long-term strategy for the girls’ program and maintains a minimum of 20 hours per week of on-field involvement, working with teams directly, as outlined in their contract.
- The Head Coach of Girls Soccer focuses on execution, delivery, and support, ensuring those standards are applied consistently across teams and programs.
- This role does not assume responsibility for club-wide technical policy, evaluation governance, or pathway design.
- All technical decisions, curriculum updates, and evaluation processes flow through the Technical Director – Girls.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & On-Field Delivery
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day delivery of all girls’ teams (U6–U18) across grassroots, developmental, and competitive streams.
- Serve as Head Coach for designated teams, with full responsibility for training design, player development, and match-day leadership.
- Implement seasonal plans, training frameworks, and game models as defined by the Technical Director – Girls.
- Ensure consistent application of the club’s curriculum, playing principles, and long-term player development model across all girls’ programs.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, safety, and supervision during training sessions, matches, and events.
Coach Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide direct leadership, mentorship, and support to girls’ program coaches.
- Observe training sessions and matches and provide constructive, development-focused feedback aligned with club methodology.
- Support coach onboarding, integration, and retention within the girls’ program.
- Assist the Technical Director – Girls with coach education initiatives, workshops, and professional development activities.
- Actively support the recruitment, development, and mentorship of female coaches within the program.
Player Development & Family Engagement
- Support player development pathways by monitoring progression and identifying development needs in collaboration with the Technical Director – Girls.
- Communicate expectations, development objectives, and program information clearly and professionally.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and empowering environment that promotes enjoyment, growth, retention, and long-term participation.
Program Operations & Administration
- Support scheduling, rostering, and program logistics in collaboration with the Technical Director – Girls and club administration.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, development notes, and coach feedback.
- Ensure players and coaches meet all BC Soccer and Canada Soccer requirements, including registration, certifications, and safety standards.
- Contribute to regular program updates and reporting for the Technical Director – Girls.
Events, Player ID & Community Engagement
- Support and assist with the on-field delivery of player identification sessions, camps, festivals, and club events.
- Represent Port Moody Soccer Club at community, school, and soccer-related events.
- Assist with collecting and reviewing player and parent feedback to support continuous program improvement.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum Canada Soccer C Licence (B Licence preferred or in progress).
- 3–5 years of coaching experience within a club, school, academy, or competitive soccer environment.
- Experience leading or coordinating girls’ or female-focused soccer programming.
- Strong understanding of age-appropriate player development principles and training methodologies.
- Proven leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Valid Driver’s Licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Preferred Assets
- Canada Soccer B Licence or higher.
- Canada Children’s License.
- Post-secondary education in sport coaching, kinesiology, or sport management.
- Experience mentoring female coaches or leading inclusion initiatives.
- Background as a competitive or collegiate player.
- Experience supporting player identification and development pathways.
