Full job description

Lawlor Safety was founded in Hamilton in 1962 to provide safety equipment to the local steel industry. We have since expanded our customer range and provide equipment to customers in the construction, municipal, health care, manufacturing and service industries. From our manufacturer trained staff to our convenient delivery service, we have answered the need for brand name safety products in Southern Ontario.

Lawlor Safety is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to join our team and support the day-to-day financial operations of the business.

The Accounting Manager will play a key role in managing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial records, and supporting the company’s ongoing growth. This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who is organized, analytical, and looking to grow within a dynamic business environment. The successful candidate will also provide leadership and oversight to a small Accounting team while working extensively within NetSuite ERP.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee and support a team of 3 employees within the accounting/administration function.
Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Utilize NetSuite ERP for daily accounting operations, reporting, reconciliations, and financial data management.
Process bi-weekly payroll administration and related remittances.
Prepare customer invoicing and monitor collections.
Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
Prepare and submit government filings including HST/GST remittances and related reporting.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Assist with general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.
Support inventory accounting and reporting functions.
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial information.
Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
Help improve accounting procedures and internal controls.
Liaise with external accountants and auditors as required.
Other related duties as required.

Background and Experience Required

A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; the pursuit of CPA designation is considered an asset.
Minimum 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience in a similar work environment is required.
Minimum 5 years of payroll processing in a similar work environment is required.
Previous experience managing a small accounting department required.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
Experience using ERP/accounting software is required; experience with NetSuite ERP is strongly preferred.
Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience in distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or industrial products industries is considered an asset.
