Responsibilities:
- Coordinating the orderly flow of patients and visitors in and out of the Department, reception and clerical activities within the Department, and the dissemination and co-ordination of general information.
- Answer phone calls - relay messages, liaise between staff, physicians and public.
- Make appointments for diagnostic tests, dispatch the corresponding requisitions and specimens to appropriate Departments, and arrange patient escort if necessary.
- Transcribe physician’s orders, fax med orders to pharmacy, and order enter all other orders.
- Update patient room list and board daily, complete diet list and fax to Dietary.
- Write daily assignment sheet for the next 24 hours under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Team Leader.
- Completion of workload tabulations and prepare pay sheets.
- Answer family questions and accompany visitors to patient's bedside.
- Order supplies and stock charts and cupboards, file old sheets in charts.
Qualifications:
- Medical Terminology or Administration post-secondary education, or equivalent knowledge gained through past experience required.
- Excellent computer skills required with a demonstrated typing speed of 40 - 50 wpm.
- Ability to transcribe orders is required.
- An excellent telephone manner required.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
- Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal).
- Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, availability and performance required.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and patient safety, considers safety of self and co-workers.
