Full job description

I am looking for a practical, curious garden helper to help keep a small urban food-growing project moving through the growing season. This is a hands-on role for someone who cares about organic growing, soil health, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, and learning by doing.

The garden is spread across front and back yard growing areas in Burlington. Some beds are already planted, seedlings are started indoors, and more trees and shrubs are being added. The goal is simple: grow more of our family's food in a thoughtful, resilient, low-waste way without the project depending on my constant daily involvement.

Why This Role Matters

This role helps turn a personal food-growing vision into a steady working rhythm. The right person will help with planting, watering, weeding, harvests, preserving, and general garden upkeep while learning the system and improving it over the season.

The growing principles include organic/no-spray methods, soil health, soil food web thinking, permaculture, some JADAM/KNF practices, local resilience, regenerative agriculture, and community building.

What You Will Own

Help maintain productive garden beds across the front and back yards.
Support planting, watering, weeding, mulching, compost/soil care, and basic crop maintenance.
Help organize harvests so food is eaten, stored, shared, sold, or preserved instead of wasted.
Help with preserving during harvest season.
Learn the garden system as you work and suggest practical improvements when you see them.
Treat the home, garden, tools, and shared space with care and respect.

What Makes You a Fit

You are interested in urban farming, permaculture, growing your own food, and organic/regenerative growing practices.
You have some hands-on growing experience and are willing to read, learn, ask questions, and improve while doing the work.
You are reliable, respectful, comfortable with physical outdoor work, and able to communicate clearly about schedule, progress, and issues.

For a live-in fit, there is a private spare room with shared kitchen and bathroom. Quiet hours are 8pm-9am because there is a baby in the home. One parking spot is available, and transit comes right to the door. No pets, smoking, or vaping.
