Providence Health Care, in partnership with BCIT, is offering fully funded perioperative education for nurses interested in a career in the Operating Room (OR). This includes:

100% coverage of tuition and textbooks

Paid wages at 100% of the posted FTE for eligbile program components.
Upon completing the program, you'll receive a Perioperative Nursing Certificate (AORN) and begin working as an OR Registered Nurse at Mount St. Joseph Hospital. Please note: participants in the program must commit to 18 months of full-time sevice with PHC after completing the program.

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Minimum of 1-2 year medical/surgical experience (preferred)

Not eligible for those who have received Post-Basic Education Funding from PHC for the past 2 years.

Applicant must successfully complete the Post-Basic Education prior to working in the Department.

Community site: Mount Saint Joseph Hospital’s (MSJ) OR is a community-level surgical site with four operating rooms, is home to Providence’s Ophthalmology Program which operates in three procedure rooms, and the Main OR holds 80% of the province's breast cancer surgeries.

Your Day to Day:

Review patient/resident status using various methods: chart review, observation, interviews, questionnaires, collateral information, and consultation with healthcare team.

Assess patient/resident problems and needs, plan, implement, evaluate, and prioritize nursing care and interventions based on clinical judgment and evidence-based practice.

Provide nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, technology, and PHC standards.

Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, reassess as needed, and modify care plan accordingly.

Record observations and communicate changes in patient/resident condition to designated staff.
