Junior Accountant (Co-op or Internship)

Company Description

Battle River Energy Ltd. (Battle River) is a junior oil company, with a head office located downtown Calgary. Founded in 2018, Battle River is a conventional heavy oil producer operating in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB).

The Role

Battle River is seeking a Co-op Student to join our Accounting team for the Fall 2026 term. This is a great opportunity for a student pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce to gain hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry, working alongside our production accounting and finance teams on real-world tasks and projects.

Accountabilities

Invoice Processing

Process accounts payable (AP) invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment.
Process accounts receivable (AR) invoices and support collections tracking.
Match invoices to purchase orders and resolve discrepancies as needed.

Financial Accounting

Prepare and post financial accounting entries, including journal entries and accruals.
Assist with account reconciliations and month-end close activities.
Help maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.

Filing & Documentation

Maintain organized filing of financial records, invoices, and supporting documentation.
Ensure documents are accurately filed and easily retrievable for audits and reporting.

Reporting

Assist in generating monthly financial and production reports.
Support preparation of schedules and summaries for the accounting team.
Contribute to month-end close through generating and analyzing reports.

Analysis

Perform analysis on financial and production data to support decision-making.
Assist with variance analysis and identify trends for management review.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
An interest in the Canadian oil and gas industry.
Prior co-op, internship, or work experience in accounting is an asset but not required.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with accounting software is an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Position Details

Duration: Co-op / Internship — September 2026 to December 2026 (or May 2027)

Hours: 3–5 days per week (flexible around academic schedule)

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Work Location: In-person required — Calgary, Alberta

Posting Deadline: September 21st 2026 midnight

Pay: From $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24.0 – 40.0 per week
