Full job description

Role Overview

The General Manager is responsible for the P&L, operations, sales growth, safety, customer satisfaction, and team leadership. You’ll translate company strategy into daily execution—ensuring sold work is profitable, jobs are delivered safely and on-schedule, customers are delighted, and the business scales sustainably.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Leadership & Strategy

Own theannual operating plan (revenue, margin, overhead, cash flow).
Drive weekly/quarterly business reviews, forecasting, and continuous improvement.
Build a performance culture with clear goals, coaching, and accountability.
Champion company values, safety-first culture, and high-quality standards.

2) Sales & Business Development

Lead/oversee sales pipeline: lead gen, inspections, estimating, close rates, average ticket.
Set pricing strategies, margin targets, and discount thresholds.
Develop partner channels: builders, property managers, insurance adjusters, HOAs, multi-family, commercial PMs.
Oversee marketing calendar (seasonal campaigns, storm events, digital, canvassing).

3) Operations & Project Delivery

Oversee scheduling, materials procurement, install quality, and project closeout.
Ensure crew productivity, workmanship standards, and punch list completion.
Implement standardized job packs (scope, materials, photos, safety plan, quality checklist).
Manage subcontractors and in-house crews; enforce SLAs and quality standards.
Drive change-order discipline and scope control.

4) Safety & Compliance

Own the safety program: toolbox talks, fall protection, PPE, site inspections, incident reporting.
Maintain all licensing, permits, WCB, Provincial OH&S compliance, and COR).
Implement near-miss tracking and corrective actions.

5) Financial Management

Own P&L performance: job costing, labor/material variance, gross margin, overhead control.
Approve purchasing, vendor terms, rebates, and inventory controls.
Weekly WIP review, AR collections, and cash-flow forecasting.
Improve estimating accuracy and markup discipline.

6) Customer Experience & Service

Ensure 5-star customer experience: communication cadence, on-site professionalism, clean-up, and warranty service.
Oversee service department (repairs, callbacks, warranty).
Respond to escalations quickly and effectively; monitor NPS/reviews.

7) People & Culture

Hire, train, and develop managers, sales reps, coordinators, and crew leads.
Implement performance scorecards, ride-alongs, field audits, and coaching.
Workforce planning: staffing, seasonal ramp-up, subcontractor capacity.
Foster a respectful, inclusive, and safety-conscious workplace.

8) Systems & Process Improvement

Optimize CRM/ERP usage (e.g. Teams, Jobber, FCS, CompanyCam etc).
Standardize SOPs for estimating, scheduling, site setup, change orders, invoicing.
Leverage photos, QA checklists, and drones for documentation and quality control.

Qualifications

7–10+ years in construction/roofing/exteriors with 3–5+ years in a GM/Operations leadership role.
Proven P&L ownership and scaling experience in a contractor or trades business.
Strong knowledge of roofing systems (asphalt shingle, metal, TPO/EPDM/PVC, SBS), siding/cladding, and building envelope basics.
Track record with job costing, estimating, vendor management, and subcontractor oversight.
Safety leadership with Provincial OHS familiarity
Proficiency with CRM/ERP and field tools (e.g., EagleView/hover, CompanyCam, QuickBooks, Teams ).
Valid driver’s license; clean driving record.

Financial acumen (pricing, margin management, cash control).
Operational discipline (SOPs, scheduling, logistics, QA/QC).
Sales leadership (coaching reps, pipeline, pricing discipline).
Excellent communication: field, office, client-facing.
Problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
People leadership: hiring, coaching, and accountability.
