Senior Process Engineer
About SWAT Projects
SWAT Projects is a Calgary-based engineering services firm specializing in small-to-medium capital projects, facility retrofits, and brownfield/O&M work. We focus on helping clients execute capital programs that demand both agility and technical depth. Our teams bring senior-level attention and practical field experience to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and with lasting value.
Our size gives us the advantage of being responsive, integrated, and client-focused — every project benefits from senior-level oversight and practical field expertise. By combining disciplined execution with a collaborative mindset, we help clients move projects from concept to completion with confidence, creating value that lasts well beyond the final handover.
The Role
As a Senior Process Engineer, you’ll provide technical leadership across SWAT’s small-to-medium capital and brownfield projects, overseeing the full lifecycle of process engineering scope. Your responsibilities will span early-stage pre-FEED activities such as debottlenecking studies, flare system and relief audits, and equipment technology evaluations; FEED activities including PSV, equipment, and system sizing; and detailed engineering where you will guide and review the development of all process-related engineering deliverables. You’ll work closely with project managers, multi-discipline teams, and clients to ensure that all technical deliverables meet regulatory, operational, and industry requirements, while setting the standard for quality and consistency.
This role combines advanced technical execution with leadership responsibilities. You’ll provide direction, quality oversight, and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers, support project engineering functions, and help drive project execution strategies. Your experience and judgement will contribute directly to safe, practical, and high-value designs, as well as to the continued development of SWAT’s technical capabilities.
You will:
- Lead development and QA/QC of all major process engineering deliverables: PFDs, P&IDs, H&MBs, datasheets, shutdown keys, narratives, C&E diagrams, process control strategies, relief summaries, and scope documentation.
- Lead complex engineering calculations and validate calculations completed by others.
- Direct and facilitate process safety reviews (HAZOP/LOPA), ensuring follow-up actions are technically sound and efficiently executed.
- Build and validate facility simulation models and guide scenario-based evaluations.
- Provide senior-level guidance on SAGD, heavy oil, midstream, and O&G processes including wellpad design, separation systems, water treating, steam systems, and facility modifications.
- Lead field scoping, debottlenecking assessments, and brownfield integration strategies.
- Provide final technical approval on vendor integrations, equipment selection, and technical bid evaluations.
- Lead RFQ technical packages and collaborate with supply chain to ensure clarity and correctness.
- Oversee multi-discipline coordination and ensure alignment between mechanical, piping, EIC, and civil/structural engineering.
- Develop project execution strategies, engineering estimates, DBMs, and key client deliverables
- Mentor and coach intermediate and junior engineers, supporting long-term team development.
- Provide client-facing leadership, supporting technical decisions and building strong working relationships.
