With an average team of approximately 20 employees, we are seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to provide day-to-day leadership across our operations and support the continued growth of the business.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who combines operational expertise, crew leadership, client relationship management, financial accountability, sales support, and practical field and equipment experience.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in the office, on customer sites, leading crews, meeting with clients, quoting work, and stepping in operationally when required.
Position Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the company, including field execution, workforce leadership, customer service, estimating, job costing, equipment oversight, safety leadership, and operational planning.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently, profitably, and to the high standards our clients expect.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong decision-making, accountability, and the flexibility to respond to changing operational demands, particularly during winter snow events and peak seasonal periods.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership
· Oversee and manage day-to-day operations for landscaping, property maintenance, and snow & ice management services
· Coordinate labour, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and scheduling to ensure efficient service delivery
· Monitor operational performance and proactively resolve issues impacting service quality, productivity, or customer satisfaction
· Conduct regular site inspections for quality control, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and customer service standards
· Manage dispatching and deployment of crews, equipment, and resources
· Support weather monitoring, dispatch decision-making, and operational execution during snow events
· Maintain operational readiness during peak seasonal periods
· Identify and implement process improvements to improve efficiency, service delivery, and profitability.
Crew Leadership & Supervision
· Lead, supervise, mentor, and support field supervisors, operators, and crew members
· Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, safety, and strong work ethic
· Conduct employee coaching, training, and performance management
· Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and team development
· Address personnel and operational issues in a timely and professional manner
· Ensure teams meet productivity, quality, and safety expectations
· Provide hands-on operational support when required
Sales, Customer Service & Client Relations
· Build and maintain strong relationships with existing commercial clients, property managers, and stakeholders
· Respond to client inquiries, service requests, and concerns promptly and professionally
· Conduct customer meetings and site visits
· Identify opportunities for additional services, contract renewals, and business growth
· Support business development and sales initiatives
· Assist with proposals, estimates, service recommendations, and client presentations
· Represent the company professionally in the field and in client interactions
· Help maintain high client retention and satisfaction levels
Estimating, Budgeting & Financial Accountability
· Prepare accurate estimates, quotes, and proposals for landscaping, maintenance, and snow services
· Develop job budgets, labour plans, and resource allocations
· Track job costing, labour productivity, material consumption, equipment utilization, and profitability
· Monitor project and service performance against budget expectations
· Identify opportunities to improve margins and operational efficiency
· Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning
· Maintain cost controls across labour, fuel, maintenance, subcontractors, materials, and overhead
Safety Leadership
· Lead by example in promoting a strong health and safety culture
· Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation, company safety policies, and safe work procedures
· Participate in hazard assessments, incident investigations, inspections, and corrective actions
· Support COR program maintenance, compliance, and continuous improvement
· Conduct regular safety meetings, coaching, and field observations
· Perform routine worksite safety inspections and ensure deficiencies are identified, documented, communicated, and corrected promptly
· Promote accountability for safe work practices across all levels of the organization
· Ensure safety records and required documentation are maintained appropriately
· Support worker training, orientations, and ongoing safety engagement
Equipment & Fleet Oversight
· Oversee the utilization, maintenance coordination, readiness, and safe operation of company fleet and equipment
· Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repairs
· Support troubleshooting of equipment issues in the field when needed
· Ensure operators are trained and equipment is used safely and responsibly
· Assist with equipment planning and resource allocation for projects and seasonal operations
Equipment experience should include:
· Skid steers
· Wheel loaders
· Pickup trucks with trailers
· Commercial mowers
· Small engine equipment
· General landscaping and snow removal equipment
Administrative & Systems Leadership
· Support operational scheduling, reporting, job tracking, and administrative systems
· Maintain accurate operational records related to quoting, job costing, service execution, inspections, and compliance
· Provide regular operational updates and reporting to ownership
· Support continuous improvement of systems, workflows, and operational processes
Qualifications
Required
· Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in landscaping, snow removal, construction, property maintenance, or a related operational environment
· Strong experience leading multiple crews and managing fast-paced field operations
· Commercial estimating, quoting, and proposal experience
· Experience with budgeting, job costing, and financial performance management
· Strong customer service and relationship management skills
· Practical hands-on knowledge of commercial landscaping and snow operations equipment
· Strong leadership, organizational and problem-solving abilities
· Ability to lead under pressure, particularly during snow events and urgent service situations
· Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, scheduling systems, CRM/job costing software)
