The Haskayne School of Business invites applications for a Student Research Assistant, CIRL. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Canadian Institute of Resources Law is offering a summer Aboriginal & energy law research assistant position. The Research assistant will reports to Executive Director, CIRL.
The Canadian Institute of Resources Law (CIRL) is a leading, independent national organization affiliated with the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law. Its work involves research, education, and publication on the legal aspects of renewable natural resources and Aboriginal law.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Provide assistance with the preparation of updates and commentaries on Alberta Energy Regulator and Canada Energy Regulator decisions as directed by Professor Allan Ingelson the CIRL Executive Director

Conduct comparative research on energy and Aboriginal laws and regulations related to renewable energy development on First Nations Lands

Search online data bases and write memos and summaries of Alberta and Canadian judicial and administrative decisions on energy and environmental law issues

Review assigned law review articles, statutes, regulations, judicial and administrative decisions; summarize the readings as directed by the CIRL Executive Director

Proof CIRL reports and publications including checking footnote sources
Qualifications / Requirements:

The applicant must be a 1L or 2L JD student at a Canadian Common Law school

Candidates will be considered who have demonstrated a genuine interest in Aboriginal and renewable energy development

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to work in CIRL under the supervision of the CIRL Executive Director (Allan Ingelson)
