The Position
APX Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Crew Lead to manage a multidisciplinary team. The Crew Lead will manage a full-time crew servicing select long-term contracts depending on season:
1. Encampments cleanup: across all seasons, you will lead a crew through daily field operations, including preparing vehicles, supplies, and equipment, travelling to designated sites, assessing encampments, directing dismantling and cleanup activities, coordinating breaks, completing reports, and ensuring end‑of‑day cleanup.
2. Parks maintenance support: during peak summer periods, your team will support other divisions providing mowing, trimming, and shrub maintenance work in City parks and green spaces.
3. Snow and Ice Management: during peak snow events, your team will support other crews at single sites to provide snow removal services.
A variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to the following, will be required:
- Organize and prepare the crew vehicle each morning for daily tasks.
- Organize, brief, and dispatch your crew to identified encampment sites.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of your assigned vehicle.
- Liaise with bylaw officers when required, and navigate to encampment locations .
- Lead the dismantling, loading, and disposal of encampment materials.
- Support ongoing training and ensure crew members maintain knowledge of safety‑related practices and procedures.
- Utilize APX proprietary technology including a GPS-linked task tracking system to determine route optimization, and confirming job completion and supporting photo documentation using mobile device apps.
Working Conditions
This position requires physically demanding work in all types of working and weather conditions in winter and summer seasons.
Qualifications
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent); a clean driving record. Review of acceptable Driver’s Abstract will be required as condition of hiring.
· 3 to 5 years’ experience managing crews in an industrial setting; landscape maintenance crew leadership is a strong asset.
· Experience operating skid steers, tractors, mowers, forklifts or other light industrial equipment
· Safety certifications (First Aid, ACSA leadership courses, WHMIS, etc.).
· Experience working with vulnerable populations in Calgary considered an asset.
Competencies
· Strong leadership and crew‑management abilities, with experience directing small teams in field‑based operations.
· Ability to mentor, coach, and train crew members on safe work practices and operational expectations.
· Skilled in decision‑making, problem‑solving, and maintaining professionalism in challenging or high‑pressure situations.
· Capable of coordinating daily workflow, assigning tasks, managing breaks, and ensuring productivity throughout the workday.
· Confident in conducting site assessments, determining next steps, and engaging external partners (e.g. peace officers) when required.
· Strong awareness of safety regulations, rules, and requirements.
· High responsiveness and accuracy in reporting.
· Motivated and willing to perform all aspects of the job thoroughly.
