Matrix HR is partnering with an established Client in the Concrete and Specialty Flooring industry to recruit a Construction Estimator, based out of Calgary, AB!
Our client is a leader in commercial and industrial epoxy flooring and concrete restoration across Western Canada. As they continue to grow, they are looking for a skilled, full-time Construction Estimator to join their close-knit team.
Position Summary
The Construction Estimator will prepare accurate and competitive estimates, quantity takeoffs, quotations, and bid submissions for commercial and industrial projects. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, manage multiple bids and deadlines, and apply a practical understanding of construction methods, costs, materials, labour, and project requirements to support the business development team throughout the bidding process.
What You’ll Do
Estimating & Bid Management: Review bid invitations and specifications to perform detailed quantity takeoffs. Develop labour, material, and equipment pricing to prepare highly competitive proposals. Track active tenders and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Construction & Technical Review: Interpret construction drawings and review scopes involving concrete restoration, polished concrete, and epoxy flooring. Assess site conditions, identify constructability risks, and incorporate addendums or revisions into pricing.
Supplier & Client Coordination: Evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, maintain strong vendor relationships, and participate in pre-bid meetings or site visits to clarify scope and pricing.
Cost Analysis & Process Improvement: Monitor market pricing and construction cost trends. Maintain historical cost data and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and processes.
What You Bring
Experience: 5+ years of construction estimating experience, ideally within commercial, industrial, or specialty contracting environments.
Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff) and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction labour, materials, equipment, subcontractor pricing, and project costs.
Core Competencies: Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
Requirements: A valid driver's licence and the ability to attend occasional local project or site visits.
Nice to Have (Assets)
Knowledge of concrete, polished concrete, epoxy flooring, coatings, or restoration.
Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
Construction trade background or journeyperson certification.
Location & Work Schedule
The successful candidate will work onsite in Calgary, Alberta, Monday through Friday during regular full-time business hours. Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required during peak bid periods or to meet project deadlines. Some local travel to project sites, pre-bid meetings, or client locations may be required.
