Willowbrae Academy Childcare Evanston in NW Calgary is seeking a strong Assistant Director. Experience in Planning Emergent Curriculum and strong leadership skills are required for this position. Applicants should have the correct qualifications and be able to perform the following tasks
Qualifications:
- Degree in Early Childhood Education or Childcare Supervisor Certificate
- Minimum three years relevant practical experienceThe
- Early Childhood Administration and Supervisor program would be an asset
- Knowledge of children's development, agency policies and human resources procedures
- High standard of professionalism
- Enthusiasm for serving public ensuring that all children and clients .
- Participate yet assertive management style leads by personal example, coaching, teamwork, but not hesitant to make decisions and direct activities
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to client, children and staff needs as well as communicate with tact and diplomacy
- High energy level with a strong work ethic
- Excellent organization skills to prioritize workload in order to achieve results in a constantly changing environment.
- Able to maintain the smooth operation of the daycare site through the ability to function as part of a cohesive team in the absence of the Director.
- Ability to safeguard confidential information
- Infant/Child C.P.R. and First Aid updated yearly Criminal record and sector check.
- Hold Class 4 driving licence
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring that all Alberta legislative requirements are met with 100% compliance
- Motivates and leads staff through personal example regarding client relations, site cleanliness, program development, classroom leadership, health and safety practices, uniform standards, staff relations, and compliance.

- Maintains enrollment expectations through on-going communication with all families, accurate administration, agency promotion and hosting open houses
- Promotes open communication and teamwork with all staff through personal example and use of positive employee relations techniques
- Maintains positive community relations
- Accurately performs administrative tasks in a timely manner
- Performs other related assignments as required
Communication:
- Communicate the goals and objectives through information registration, forms and program
- discuss progress with parents on an informal ongoing basis.
- inform parents daily of staff concerns regarding their child and provide appropriate follow-up
- arrange parent-teacher interviews
- refer parents to appropriate professionals and other resources as needed
- Participate in individual or parent committee meetings yearly or more frequently as needed
Program Management:
- plan the gradual orientation of newly enrolled children
- develop and implement the program through direction, participation, and ongoing evaluation
- facilitate the management of children's programs and routines
- provide experiences which teach good health practices: physical, mental, dental, and nutritional.
- arrange evaluation and programming for children with special needs
- supervise the activities of the staff and to ensure that the children's individual needs are being met by the program
- Attend Open houses are required by Director
- Experience in the accreditation process.
- Respect each individuals’ ideas, opinions, and suggestions.
Staff Supervision:
- Guide staff regarding duties
- communicate with staff daily, implement procedures for solving problems that may occur, respond to individual and group needs
- make staff aware of changes in enrollment when they occur
- inform staff on a daily basis of parental concerns regarding children
- maintain personnel files
- act as a resource for and work with staff members to ensure policy procedure and program needs are met
- relay policies and procedures regularly to staff, and to ensure that they are adhered to
Health and Safety:
- maintain current first aid training and infant C.P.R.
- keep both the inside and the outdoor play area free of debris and structural hazards and keeps the equipment in non-hazardous condition.
- implement monthly practice procedure for fire and other emergencies.
- assist in keeping readily accessible and current list of phone numbers for contacting parents and emergency services.
- monitor and replenish first aid supplies when used.
- record accidents and injuries to Director.
- update which children have allergies and other conditions which require special care.
- familiarize self with all safety rules and health practices regarding the academy and the children.
- store dangerous or poisonous materials properly.
- release children only to authorized individuals.
- Class 4 Drivers License
Guidance and Behavior Management:
- provide positive guidance methods, such as positive reinforcements, redirection and positive language, and use each appropriately on a daily basis.
- Follow Behavior Management Policy guidelines as set out by management
