Senior Financial Analyst
1 Full-time – 18-month Contract Position
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, this position requires advanced knowledge of complex accounting principles and performs a variety of complex accounting functions including but not limited to maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial statements and cash flow forecasts. Lead operating and capital budgets process, analyses operating statements and other financial reports and recommends process improvements. This position works independently and must adhere to generally accepted accounting principles and reporting requirements. This position provides mentorship and guidance to junior team members and is routinely assigned work of greater scope and complexity.
What You'll Be Doing

Accountable for the preparation of year-end financial statements and annual MD&A, as well as monthly and quarterly internal financial reporting package and adhoc requests.

Accountable for regulatory reporting.

Prepare financial variance analysis, management and board reports.

Review and/or prepare calculations, journal entries and reconciliations.

IFRS research.

Prepare annual corporate tax provision and return and review GST/PST returns.

Accountable for the external and internal audit process.

Maintain governance, risk and compliance to ensure controls are in place and operating effectively. Ensure documentation is relevant and up to date.

Accountable for role specific IT including the identification of process improvements and training.

Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.

Support risk management and effective governance by maintaining compliance with policies, procedures and controls both corporately and within area of responsibility, ensuring they are operating effectively and escalating discrepancies to management.

How You'll Succeed

Related University degree and typically 8 or more years of related experience; or combination of formal education and experience.

Knowledge of IFRS, particularly financial instruments, corporate and indirect tax.

Professional designation required (CPA).

Advanced proficiency in Excel and intermediate proficiency in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook and teams) and other software as required.

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 considered an asset.

Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced collaborative and team-oriented work environment.

Strong organizational, prioritization and problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Must pass Alberta Central background clearance process.
