Team Lead – Marketing Operations Accounting
Our client, an oil and gas producer based in Calgary, is looking for a Team Lead - Marketing Operations Accounting to join their growing team in Calgary, Alberta. This dynamic role will be instrumental in providing leadership, direction, and strategic financial support for marketing operations, ensuring
accurate reporting, effective risk management, and alignment with overall business objectives.
Responsibilities:
- As a leader within our Marketing Finance team, you will play a critical role in enabling operational excellence, commercial insight, and strong financial governance
- Lead a team responsible for accurately capturing and reporting commodity sales, purchases, transportation, and inventory related to marketing operations
- Oversee the full life cycle of confirmations, invoicing, settlements, and counterparty interactions
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of monthly marketing results, including robust analysis for corporate reporting and leadership review
- Serve as a key financial liaison to front office (marketing) and mid‑office (risk, scheduling, trading) teams, supporting commercial decision‑making with clarity and insight
- Provide financial and operational analysis to support the annual budgeting process and other strategic planning initiatives
- Champion a strong internal control environment, ensuring SOX compliance and consistent application of policies
- Support regulatory compliance obligations, including periodic filings and submissions
- Lead a culture of continuous improvement, optimizing processes, strengthening reporting capabilities, and mentoring your team to advance performance and efficiency
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in petroleum marketing finance, including exposure to complex commercial operations
- Post‑secondary degree in Accounting or Finance
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
- 1–3 years of experience providing day‐to‐day leadership, work coordination, and coaching for a small team of finance or accounting professionals
- Deep understanding of accounting standards and financial reporting practices within the Oil & Gas sector
- Experience working within SOX frameworks, including control design, documentation, and review
- Ability to translate financial concepts for cross‑functional technical and commercial teams
- Proven leadership capability, with strengths in communication, coaching, and building high‑performing teams
- Working knowledge of SAP, BW, and commodity trading systems (e.g., RightAngle) is a strong asset
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft Office applications
