Position Summary
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Purchasing and Logistics Specialist is responsible for ensuring our manufacturing team has the right materials, at the right time, and at the right cost.
This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely enjoys purchasing, sourcing, negotiating, expediting, and solving supply chain challenges. We're looking for someone who takes ownership, builds strong supplier relationships, follows through on commitments, and enjoys the satisfaction of keeping production moving. If you enjoy rolling up your sleeves, negotiating a better deal, tracking down hard-to-find components, and finding practical solutions to supply chain challenges, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate, and develop relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
- Obtain quotations and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms.
- Issue purchase orders and manage the purchasing process from requisition through delivery.
- Proactively expedite critical materials and resolve supplier delivery issues before they impact production.
- Coordinate domestic and international logistics processes and documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and work closely with Production to ensure material availability.
- Collaborate with Engineering to source components and identify alternatives when required.
- Resolve supplier quality issues in partnership with Quality and Engineering.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information within NetSuite.
- Monitor supplier performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and improvements.
- Stay informed on market conditions, pricing trends, and supply chain risks.
- Ensure purchased materials are available as planned to meet customer delivery commitments.
- Build long-term supplier partnerships while maintaining a strong commercial focus.
What Success Looks Like
- Ensure production always has the materials required to meet customer commitments.
- Build trusted relationships with suppliers while negotiating competitive pricing and delivery.
- Anticipate supply chain issues before they become production problems.
- Take ownership of purchasing activities from RFQ through delivery.
- Continuously look for opportunities to improve cost, quality, and supplier performance.
- Become a trusted resource for purchasing and logistics across the organization.
- Demonstrate a very high degree of attention to detail.
- This role requires the successful candidate to be on-site.
Qualifications
- 7–10 years of purchasing and supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience sourcing technical or engineered products and components.
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven ability to obtain competitive pricing and agreements.
- Experience coordinating domestic and international shipments and documentation.
- Working knowledge of inventory management principles.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline.
- SCMP designation (or working toward one) is considered an asset.
- Experience with aerospace, defence, electronics, or high-tech manufacturing is an asset.
