Position summary
Reporting to the project management office manager, information technology (IT), the data analyst is responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting data to support business and technical decision-making. The data analyst will use advanced qualitative and quantitative methods to identify trends, develop reports, and provide actionable insights that improve systems and processes. This includes but is not limited to regular data quality monitoring, preparing data for analysis and generating regular and ad hoc reports.
Duties and responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- support all data requests:
- review, extract and clean data
- manipulate and merge data
- analyze data
- prepare data summaries
- design and maintain dashboards, reports, charts and graphs as required by operations and key business partners
- monitor system performance metrics and identify trends and anomalies
- analyze data related to system usage, application performance, and operational efficiency
- translate business requirements into technical data analysis and reporting solutions
- maintain and manage databases, data warehouses, and data models
- guide developers or database administrators to design new data structures in line with an organization-wide data dictionary that can facilitate cross-system integrations
- perform statistical analysis to identify patterns, correlations and opportunities for improvement
- ensure data accuracy, integrity and consistency across IT systems
- collaborate with cross-functional teams including software developers, system administrators, cybersecurity specialists, leadership teams, and business analysts
- document data processes, methodologies, and reporting standards
- support data governance and compliance initiatives
- performs any other related duties and participates in special projects as required to support the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC)
- takes measures to protect all data and information sources to comply with CPSBC’s privacy policy and procedures
Skills and qualifications
Required skills and qualifications include:
- successful completion of a bachelor’s degree, preferably with an emphasis in statistics, computer science, science, data analytics, business analytics, or a related field supplemented by a certificate/diploma/degree specializing in related technologies
- three or more years of experience as a data/information and/or reporting analyst managing and controlling data for IT operations and business teams
- excellent quantitative, analytical, problem-solving and investigative skills
- able to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate a significant amount of information with attention to detail and accuracy
- strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables), Word, Access, SharePoint and Outlook
- strong experience with SQL and relational databases
- strong experience with data analytics tools like Power BI or Tableau
- strong experience with relational database design is an asset
- data warehousing and data lake concept experience preferred
- excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- detail oriented with strong organization skills to handle multiple concurrent tasks and meet project deadlines
- self-motivated with ability to prioritize and independently execute assigned work as well as ability to collaborate and work within a team
- demonstrated knowledge and application of relevant legislation, ethical and legal obligations, and guidelines relating to privacy, confidentiality, and security of information
The compensation range for this position is based on an annual salary of $72,827 to $91,034 per year.
