Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals is searching for an experienced Mine Manager to lead our mining and maintenance operations in the Alberta Oil Sands.
The Job:
This is a key leadership position responsible for the site's overall performance, including safety, production, maintenance, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
This opportunity has been created as part of our continued growth and the expansion of our partnerships with open-pit mining clients. The Mine Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the site operates to Heavy Metal Equipment’s standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and integrity.

Based in the Alberta Oil Sands (Fort McMurray/Wood Buffalo Region), you will work in a safety-first environment and serve as the senior site leader, accountable for the overall success of operations in the mine.
As Mine Manager, You Will:
- Provide overall leadership and accountability for safety, production, maintenance, and financial performance
- Lead and mentor Superintendents, Supervisors, and support teams
- Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable legislation
- Develop and execute short- and long-term operational strategies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employees, customers, contractors, and mine owner representatives
- Manage site budgets, forecasts, and cost control initiatives
- Oversee workforce planning, succession development, and performance management
- Oversee incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Drive continuous improvement in reliability, productivity, and customer service
- Promote a respectful, accountable, and high-performing workplace culture
What We’re Looking For:
- A desire to make a meaningful impact and take pride in your work
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and the ability to champion a strong safety culture
- Minimum 10 years of experience in open-pit mining or heavy equipment maintenance
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a Superintendent, Operations Manager, or Mine Manager role
- Red Seal/Journeyperson certification, engineering degree, or equivalent operational experience is considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of large mining equipment, including haul trucks, shovels, excavators, and dozers
- Proven ability to manage budgets, production targets, and operational KPIs
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and maintenance/ERP systems
- Ability to access all mine sites in the Wood Buffalo Region
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract
