Overview
The Community Engagement & Family Wellness Coordinator will support the development and implementation of community-driven engagement initiatives related to Bill C-92, federal legislation that affirms Indigenous jurisdiction over child and family services, and Saulteau First Nations Family Services. This position plays an important role in strengthening relationships between community members, leadership, Elders, youth, families, and service providers by creating meaningful opportunities for connection, dialogue, and feedback.
The Coordinator will help plan and facilitate community engagement activities, gather and organize community input, support data collection and reporting processes, and ensure community voices remain central in the development of family and child well-being services. The position will also provide ongoing support to Family Services initiatives and prevention programming.
Duties & Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Build positive and respectful relationships with children, youth, families, Elders, and community members.
- Support ongoing engagement related to Bill C-92, child and family well-being, prevention programming, and jurisdiction development.
- Conduct outreach and encourage community participation in meetings, gatherings, workshops, surveys, and events.
- Assist in ensuring community members feel welcomed, heard, and included in engagement processes.
- Attend community events and act as a positive representative of Family Services.
Event Planning & Coordination
- Assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating community engagement events, gatherings, forums, workshops, and cultural activities.
- Coordinate event logistics including booking spaces, preparing materials, arranging transportation or meals, and supporting setup/cleanup.
- Help create posters, social media posts, invitations, and community notices for engagement opportunities.
- Support culturally grounded and family-centered programming that encourages community participation and relationship building.
Community Feedback & Data Organization
- Gather, document, and organize community feedback through surveys, discussions, interviews, and engagement activities.
- Maintain organized records of engagement outcomes, attendance, themes, and recommendations.
- Assist with compiling reports, summaries, and presentations for leadership, funding bodies, and program planning purposes.
- Support data collection processes that help inform future Family Services planning and Bill C-92 implementation.
- Ensure confidentiality and respectful handling of sensitive information.
Administrative & Program Support
- Assist the Family Services team with scheduling, coordination, communications, and administrative tasks related to engagement activities.
- Support collaborative work with internal departments and external service providers when required.
- Help maintain calendars, contact lists, and resource materials.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Uphold confidentiality, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice in all interactions
- Any other duties as required
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma, certificate, or experience in social work, human services, Indigenous studies, community development, administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of culturally safe approaches.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about Bill C-92, child and family well-being, and community-based prevention services.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience with event coordination, community outreach, or facilitation is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), social media platforms, and data management tools..
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to travel when required.
- Must provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
Work Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in the office Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Wage Range: $32.26-$35.33/Hr
