Position Details

ICS hires Full-Time, Part-Time, and Casual/Relief Community Support Workers.

Many programs operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Shifts may include:

7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (awake overnight)

Casual employees must be available for a minimum of three shifts per week, including one weekend shift.

This position requires BCGEU union membership.

What You'll Do

As a Community Support Worker, you will provide direct support to an individual with complex behavioural, mental health, and medical support needs. Responsibilities include:

Person-Centred Support

Support the individual to live a meaningful and self-directed life.
Promote individual rights, dignity, choice, and community inclusion.
Encourage learning opportunities, personal growth, and skill development.
Foster meaningful relationships and participation in community activities.
Support personal goals and assist the individual in achieving desired outcomes.

Behavioural and Mental Health Support

Implement Behaviour Support Plans and Positive Behaviour Support strategies.
Understand behaviour as communication and respond appropriately.
Use proactive behavioural strategies to reduce risks and promote success.
Apply de-escalation techniques and remain calm during times of crisis.
Recognize early warning signs of mental health concerns and changes in mood.
Support routines, structure, and environmental strategies that promote emotional regulation.
Utilize trauma-informed and person-centred approaches in all interactions.
Collaborate with team members and professionals to ensure consistent support practices.

Medical and Personal Care Support

Assist with personal care and daily living activities as required.
Support diabetes management and health monitoring.
Administer medications, including injectable medications, following training and established protocols.
Monitor health concerns and report changes promptly.
Perform safe lifting and transferring techniques when required (training provided).
Maintain accurate health and support documentation.

Community Inclusion and Recreation

Participate in community outings and recreational activities, including swimming and other leisure activities.
Transport the individual to appointments, activities, and community events.
Create engaging activities at home and within the community that align with the individual's interests, strengths, and goals.
Support sensory regulation and individualized strategies that promote success and well-being.

Documentation and Team Collaboration

Complete accurate daily documentation, incident reports, and communication records.
Work collaboratively with co-workers, families, managers, and professionals.
Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing development opportunities.
Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
