As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience within the last 5 years, including at least 2 years in a leadership or charge nurse role, demonstrating effective leadership and communication skills. Proven ability to resolve conflicts promptly and respectfully while addressing performance concerns and fostering a positive work environment. Strong organizational skills and experience in change management, with a focus on coaching for performance and mentorship in diverse healthcare settings. Ability to enhance workflow, patient safety, best practices, and continuous quality improvement through effective collaboration with internal programs, healthcare entities, and external agencies. Capable of performing nursing tasks, including adjusting positions (sit/stand), managing potential strain from prolonged sitting, and providing patient care that may involve lifting, bending and other physical activities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution. Registered Psychiatric Nurses with active or eligible registration with CRPNA are encouraged to apply. Experience working in addiction and mental health clinical settings, along with nursing experience in acute care. Understanding of DSM-V, including symptomatology and treatment modalities/interventions. Training in trauma informed practice, Tobacco Cessation and Opioid Agonist Therapy.
