We are currently seeking a mature individual with proven experience to join our team as a Draftsperson/Estimator.
Reporting to the Architectural Manager for Beaver Homes & Cottages at Home Hardware Building Centre in Cobourg, the Draftsperson/Estimator role is critical to the operations and future growth of our business. The Draftsperson/Estimator develops plans to meet customer requirements and estimates the cost of materials. They develop plans and specifications for home construction projects and compile a list of materials/requirements from the blueprints. Customer consultations and work closely with the Architectural Manager to support and facilitate all needs associated with design and other project-related matters.
We are looking for an individual who is organized, process-focused, and can perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support project efficiency and deliver on customer expectations. This role will require strong communication, project management skills, and attention to detail, with tremendous potential for long-term growth. As a Draftsperson/Estimator, you will work closely with the Architectural Manager to gain a vast knowledge of building techniques and local by-laws, enhancing your overall understanding of the industry and truss design and architecture. The position will require meetings with clients as well as occasional site visits to gather information and answer questions relating to the drawn plans.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Execute technical design of beams, headers, for residential projects.
· Partner with the Architectural Manager, and other technical design staff, to coordinate efforts, identify potential gaps, and provide customers with holistic architectural design/estimating solutions
· Look for process improvement opportunities that can advance efficiency, profits, and/or sales, and proactively communicate enhancement suggestions to Leadership, in an effort to evolve policies, procedures, resources, and tools
· Maintain regular communication with PRO Desk associates to ensure they understand how to support/promote the program with customers and formalize tactics/strategies to grow market share
· Work on additional duties, special projects, and assignments as assigned by store Leadership
· Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected
Qualifications we are looking for:
· Education equivalent to, or greater, than Architectural Technician or post-secondary diploma in Architectural Technology or Construction Technology. C.E.T. qualification desired
· 1-2 years of experience in the architectural field, specifically residential design
· Demonstrated experience and understanding of I-level joist and roof design software, such as Mitek, Javelin, ForteWeb, Revit, or similar alternative systems. Proficiency in Soft Plan would be an asset
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
· Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and familiarity with building products and construction techniques
· Have a desire to learn and work in a structure-focused environment with math and physics background preferred
· Ability to multi-task/prioritize in a fast-paced environment, with excellent time management skills to meet all project deadlines
· A team player, willing to stretch themselves, while working with engineers, building officials, customers, and contractors
· Someone able to problem-solve and think outside-the-box in overcoming everyday logistical challenges in the Building Supply and Design industry.
· Strong structural and mathematical critical thinking skills
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business requirements.
· Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base.
