About the Role
Durham Bone and Joint Specialists is seeking a motivated, experienced, and detail-oriented Bookkeeper & Accounting Administrator to join our team on a part-time basis.
Reporting to the leadership team, the successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the financial operations of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, preparing reconciliations, supporting payroll administration and financial reporting, and assisting with healthcare-specific billing activities. The role may also provide bookkeeping support across multiple related business entities.
This position is ideal for an experienced bookkeeping professional who enjoys working independently, has excellent organizational skills, and thrives in a collaborative healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Financial Operations
- Maintain accurate financial records and perform day-to-day bookkeeping activities using QuickBooks.
- Record and reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Prepare deposits and accurately record incoming payments.
- Process physician and vendor payments while maintaining appropriate supporting documentation.
- Maintain organized financial records in accordance with internal policies and accepted accounting practices.
Payroll & Financial Reporting
- Assist with payroll administration, payroll reconciliations, and employee expense processing.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Prepare and present month-end financial reports and supporting analyses to assist leadership with operational decision-making.
- Generate financial reports and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
Healthcare & Business Support
- Process and submit OHIP billings and assist in resolving billing discrepancies, as required.
- Support sales reporting, inventory-related financial tracking, and revenue analysis.
- Maintain accounting records for multiple related business entities, ensuring appropriate allocation of transactions between organizations.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and other accounting or administrative projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Advanced working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated understanding of the full accounting cycle, including month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general bookkeeping functions.
- Experience supporting payroll administration is considered an asset.
- Experience with OHIP billing, physician practice accounting, or healthcare bookkeeping is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with physicians, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
