Resume Due Date: Thursday, July 2nd, 2026 (5:00PM EST)
Number of Vacancies: 1
Duration: 12 Months
Hours of Work: 40 Hours
Location: Darlington – 1 Hold Rd (100% Onsite)
Job Overview
In Q2 2027, Darlington will be undertaking its Vacuum Building Outage (VBO) and performing its Vacuum Building Inspection (VBI). The VBO is a major project for Darlington, as all four units will be taken offline during this outage. It is essential that the outage is completed in an effective and timely manner to minimize economic and operational impacts to the company.
The Technical Specialist will support VBO/VBI planning and execution activities from an Operations perspective. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and operational support to ensure work planning, preparation, and field execution activities are completed safely, effectively, and in alignment with station requirements.
The candidate will be responsible for supporting operational readiness activities, including reviewing work plans and work orders, assessing operational impacts, participating in plant walkdowns, and providing operational input to support successful outage execution.
This role requires a strong understanding of nuclear station operations, field execution activities, and operational requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations teams, Control Room personnel, and field execution groups to support critical outage activities leading into the 2027 VBO/VBI outage.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, onsite environment and actively supporting outage execution activities.
Qualifications
Experienced in a licensed operations position within a CANDU Nuclear generating facility.
Previous Certified Control Room Operator (CRO) experience is strongly preferred.
Previous licensed experience at Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, particularly Unit 0 experience, is considered a significant asset.
Previous licensed operations experience from Bruce Power Unit 0 or similar CANDU operational environments will be considered an asset.
Previously licensed operators whose licenses are no longer active will be considered.
Previous Authorized Nuclear Operator (ANO) or CRSS experience will be considered an asset.
Requires knowledge of control, mechanical, or civil technology sufficient to understand the assembly, function, operation, and mechanics of applicable equipment, systems, and materials.
Strong understanding of nuclear plant operations, work execution processes, and operational risk management.
Experience reviewing work packages, work orders, and supporting operational readiness activities.
Experience performing plant walkdowns and providing operational input to support field execution.
Knowledge and understanding of permitting processes and operational controls.
Ability to quickly understand work scope, outage plans, and operational requirements.
Strong technical background with the ability to collaborate effectively with Control Room personnel, Operations teams, and field execution groups.
Experience supporting outage activities, maintenance execution, or major nuclear projects is considered an asset.
Experience in assessing and planning station work.
Engineering Management experience with Reactor Safety considered an asset.
Additional Role Requirements
This position requires an operations-focused background. Candidates whose experience is primarily in engineering, project management, scheduling, or outage planning without operational execution experience will not be considered competitive.
The successful candidate should have hands-on experience supporting plant activities and field execution rather than primarily managing teams or projects.
The ideal candidate is an individual contributor who is comfortable working directly with plant personnel, participating in field activities, and supporting outage delivery.
Candidates must be available to work 100% onsite at Darlington and actively participate in plant activities, including walkdowns and Control Room engagement.
The role requires a dedicated professional who can support a critical outage timeline with significant preparation and execution activities.
Preferred Candidate Profile
The preferred candidate will have:
Former CRO experience with Darlington Unit 0 operational knowledge.
Strong hands-on nuclear operations experience.
Experience working within a CANDU nuclear generating facility.
Experience supporting outage execution and operational readiness activities.
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple station teams and provide practical operational guidance.
Qualified former nuclear operators, including retired professionals with relevant experience, may be considered provided they are available for full-time engagement and able to actively support outage requirements.
