SUMMARY
The Shop Lead Hand is responsible for planning, direction, and supervision of all shop operations, including maintenance, repairs, body work, and vehicle upfitting activities. This role provides leadership to technicians of varying skill levels by organizing and assigning work orders, monitoring progress, and delivering hands-on training and mentorship.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for the day-to-day planning, direction, and supervision of maintenance, repair, body repair, and new vehicle up fitting activities.
· Lead technicians at multiple levels of competency – check status on orders, give direction, and provide training/mentorship.
· Exercise Considerable independent judgment in solving unusual work problems.
· Organize and assign incoming work orders
· Communicate constantly with clients, handle complaints as required if Foreman is not available.
· Act as technical expert, diagnose and/or complete difficult problems/repairs
· Inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles and equipment.
· Track and log all repairs, parts, and maintenance, noting where warranties are in effect.
· Must work with diverse customers, staff, and management teams.
· Comply with requirements as outlined in the OHSA WHMIS, company handbook and all other company issued memos and policies including appropriate use of required PPE. Follow business code of ethics and communicate to team.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required to successfully perform the job.
Education and/or experience
· Previous supervisory experience and excellent leadership capabilities expressed while working in shop.
· Excellent knowledge of Truck Mechanics; preference given to Mack/Volvo, Cummins experience.
Language Skills
· High standard of fluency in English for both oral and written correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
· Ability to apply basic mathematical skills.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificate, Licenses, Registrations
· Licensed 310T Truck and Coach Certification
· Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License, AZ an asset
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee sit, stand, kneel, stoop, bend and lift up to 50 lbs. as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
· The noise level in the work environment is minor.
