JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Junior AI Engineer.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data & AI, this position is responsible to develop, implement, and integrate AI/ML models end-to-end by collaborating on data pipelines and preprocessing, ensuring high data quality, producing maintainable tested code, and continuously applying emerging AI/ML best practices to improve deployed solutions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Assist in developing and iterating AI/ML models using appropriate algorithms, tools, and best practices.
Partner with data scientists and data engineers to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines.
Execute data preprocessing workflows (feature engineering, normalization, encoding, and train/test splits) to support model performance.
Implement, test, and validate AI models using programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Python).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI models into production systems, applications, and services.
Conduct data cleansing and support ongoing data quality management (profiling, anomaly detection, and issue remediation).
Participate in code reviews and contribute to high-quality, secure, and maintainable codebases following team standards.
Stay current on AI/ML advancements and apply new techniques to improve solution accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.

QUALIFICATIONS

4-Year University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Over 2 years experience with programming languages such as C#, Python, Java, or Angular, React, JavaScript. Basic understanding of software development methodologies.
Hands-on experience implementing and testing ML/AI models using Python and common ML frameworks/libraries.
Working knowledge of data pipelines and preprocessing techniques, including feature engineering and model-ready dataset preparation.
Experience collaborating with data scientists, data engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
Proficiency with software engineering practices such as version control (e.g., Git), code reviews, and writing maintainable, well-tested code.
Demonstrated ability to perform data cleansing and support data quality management through profiling, validation, and issue resolution.
