Full job description

Kennedy House (KH) is a not-for-profit organization with a long-standing dedication to providing exceptional personalized care for youth in the Greater Toronto Area for over 50 years. KH started with an initial family-like group home in 1971 and currently operates several residential and community-based programs, for marginalized and at-risk youth, including:

One residential home for young people in care;
Three homes for youth and young adults living with developmental disabilities;
A Day Treatment school program for youth struggling in the typical school setting;
Kennedy House Youth Centre, a secure custody facility for male youth experiencing conflict with the law;
Bailiff services to safely and securely transport youth experiencing conflict with the law;
Kennedy House After School Program for children aged 4-13 in underserved communities throughout Scarborough; and
Kennedy House Youth Shelter, for youth aged 16-24 experiencing homelessness.

Position Summary

The Residential Services Division works in conjunction with child welfare systems and other organizations to provide individualized plans of care and support. We offer a wide range of programs including but not limited to the following: time management, hygiene, transportation, nutrition, self-growth, health & safety, financial management, purchasing and utilization of community resources, job skills & employment preparation and housing & accommodation support.  

Reporting to the Supervisor 1, the Supervisor 2 provides professional supervisory oversight to staff. This position supervises the quality of services provided to children, youth, and adults in our care. The Supervisor 2 is also responsible for high-level case management and oversight with various levels of the Ontario Provincial Government, including the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The Supervisor 2 acts as a source of advice and expertise to staff including Developmental Service Workers. There is the expectation that there is a clear understanding and ability to perform all Developmental Service Worker (DSW) expectations within the program and to fill in where necessary.

Key Responsibilities and Duties 

To have a clear understanding of all events which transpire in their program on a daily basis hence, the Program Supervisor 2 must review all documentation each day to aid him/her in this responsibility.
Supervises the quality of services provided to the youth/individuals in our care.
Ensuring that the level of communication and partnership with placement workers, case facilitators, families, schools, including the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and the Ministry of Community and Social Services are professional and timely in nature.
Acts as a source of advice, guidance and expertise to the Developmental Service Workers as well as the Supervisor 2 within the program.
Expected to have a clear understanding and ability to perform all DSW expectations within the program and to fill in where necessary.
Share on call support to residential programs on a rotating schedule.
Problem solving skills and capability
Working in a face pace environment
Understanding medication administration
Attention to details, surroundings to the individuals we provide service too
Appropriate awareness of clientele behaviors
Perform other duties as required.

Education:

High school diploma is required
DSW Diploma, or a College Diploma/ University degree with a focus on Social Services and Behavioral Science, 1+ years’ work experience is required.
College Diploma/ University degree in an unrelated field, 2+ years of work experience is required.
Certification in both First Aid and CPR Level C is mandatory within 30 days of hire

Qualifications: 

Preferred two+ years of experience in program supervision or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills knowledge and ability necessary to perform the tasks
Knowledge of health-care procedures and mechanical equipment – wheelchairs, lifts, G-tubes and other specialized equipment as asset.
Current certification in CPR and First Aid are mandatory
Current certification in CPI
Valid Class G Driver’s License
Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Search must be current and maintained. Concerns and/or issues regarding the police check and Vulnerable Sector Search will be taken into consideration and does not preclude employment.
Clear knowledge of developmental needs (intellectual, emotional, physical, and social) of youth
Clinical skills, including experience and ability working with and managing difficult behavior
Ability to work with as well as deal appropriately with individuals in care as well as to the families of each individual
Excellent written and oral communication skills for liaising and communicating with colleagues and various agencies
Knowledge of formal and informal resources available in the greater Toronto area
Broad awareness of cultures, values, identities and perspectives with a demonstrated ability and interest in working with diverse populations
Ability to write legible, clear and concise reports and person-centered plans
Demonstrate maturity and reliability at all times
Excellent organization and interpersonal skills

CORE Job Requirements 

Build strong working relationships and communications with Group Home staff, and other Kennedy House Programs to ensure maximum operating effectiveness and fulfillment of special event need 
Flexible in relocating within the Kennedy House programs. 
Ensures effective, timely and accurate communications flow with regards to Kennedy House and/or program specific policies and procedures. 
The ability to perform behavioral and physical interventions, as required 
Able to work independently to complete tasks assigned by the Senior Program Manager 
Flexible and be open for learning new concepts. 
Able to manage conflicting and/or competing priorities in an effective and efficient matter. 
Able to participate in formal discussions about work processes, improvements etc 
Able to work effectively well in a Team based environment. 
Able to coordinate job tasks with colleagues to maximize efficiency. 
Support staff to achieve their established goals using a strength-based approach. 
Activities such as, but not limited to, relationship building techniques, cooking, walking in the community 
Participate, attend and complete all requisite training and/or learning programs.

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
