Meraki Construction is a newly established heavy construction company focused on delivering major infrastructure and civil projects across Northern British Columbia. Created to support the execution of Meraki Resources’s growing Major Projects portfolio, Meraki Construction is positioned to deliver large-scale road construction, grading and earthworks, road maintenance, and Heavy Civil and infrastructure projects tied to long-term northern development opportunities.
Operating within a partnership-driven model, Meraki Construction works closely with Indigenous and First Nation partners as part of its commitment to meaningful economic reconciliation and sustainable regional growth. As the company enters a critical stage of operational development, it is establishing the financial, operational, and leadership frameworks required to support sustainable growth and successful long-term project delivery.
What you’ll do
As Controller, you will play a key leadership role in establishing and overseeing the financial foundation of Meraki Construction during a pivotal stage of its development. You will design and build the flow of financial information, reporting structures, and financial processes required to support a growing heavy construction operation within a complex multi-entity and partnership environment.
You will manage core accounting operations while defining how financial information flows from field operations and project teams through to leadership and partner reporting. This includes job costing, equipment costs, work in progress, and project reporting, cash flow reporting, and partnership accounting, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all outputs.
A key focus will be developing a clear reporting structure that supports both operational decision-making and partner accountability, while also standing up full-cycle accounting processes including AP, AR, payroll, project coding, and month-end close.
Initial operations will be hands on, but you will be responsible for building and mentoring the accounting team as the division grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the finance team, including workforce planning, recruitment, coaching, mentorship and development planning.
- Leading financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting and analytics in partnership with General Manager and with support from the VP Finance.
- Monitoring and ensuring timely and accurate delivery of operational accounting activities and month-end close per established accounting policies and SOPs, identifying opportunities for improvement and leading operational efficiency projects.
- Partnering with cross functional senior managers to ensure efficient operations, consistent processes and successful achievement of company goals and objectives.
- Supporting the General Manager in strategic decision-making, contributing to company growth and strategic planning and participating in acquisition and partnership activities.
- Coordinating the completion of reviews/audits and tax filing while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Managing company specific treasury decisions with support from the VP Finance.
- Overseeing onsite administration of onboarding / offboarding employees and IT management with support from Meraki Group of Companies’ IT and HR departments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in accounting or finance
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a financial leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience with full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (ASPE, IFRS), cost accounting, and tax regulations.
- Knowledge of people management best practices and current relevant employment legislation.
- Advanced skills using and optimizing financial software, business intelligence software and ERP systems
- Advanced skills using excel for financial and accounting purposes leveraging advanced functions.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong project management and organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines while handling multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent leadership, team building, and coaching skills.
- Ability to shape organizational culture and maintain strong employee engagement.
- Ability to shape safety culture and motivate team members to think safety first.
- Ability to set and achieve departmental goals to support company strategic direction.
Working Environment
- This position will begin as a remote role, requiring candidates to work from home in Kamloops, British Columbia, with access to reliable internet.
- As the operation grows, the role will transition to an in-office position based in Kamloops, BC.

Pay: $110,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
