ABOUT THE POSITION
Spirit Works Limited is seeking a highly skilled Cabinet Maker, Joiner or Architectural Millworker to help fabricate our Story Booths—self-contained recording spaces designed to preserve and share Indigenous stories, languages, knowledge and teachings.
Each Story Booth is constructed as a contemporary cedar mini-longhouse and combines fine woodworking, cabinetry, acoustic materials, electrical and recording components. You can learn more about the project here:

This is meaningful, hands-on work requiring someone who can take ownership of a build, solve problems independently and consistently produce work to a high standard.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fabricate and assemble Story Booth structures and interior components
- Read and work from drawings, measurements, templates and established prototypes
- Cut, machine, fit and finish plywood, solid wood and cedar components
- Build doors, benches, wall panels and other custom millwork
- Install acoustic materials, hardware and interior finishes
- Assist with the integration of screens, lighting, wiring and recording equipment
- Prepare finished booths for transportation and installation
- Help refine fabrication methods, templates and production processes
- Maintain an organized, efficient and safe shop environment
- Occasionally assist with delivery and on-site installation
QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive professional experience in cabinetmaking, joinery, architectural millwork or custom fabrication
- Approximately 10 or more years of relevant experience preferred; exceptional candidates with fewer years but strong demonstrated ability are encouraged to apply
- Strong knowledge of woodworking machinery, tools, materials and finishing techniques
- Ability to work accurately from drawings and measurements
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Experience with custom installations or architectural millwork is an asset
- Ability to safely lift and handle cabinet and building components
- Valid driver’s licence is an asset

The right person will be a highly capable craftsperson who takes pride in their work and enjoys solving the challenges involved in custom fabrication. This position may particularly appeal to someone who has worked in a cabinet shop, millwork facility, exhibit-production shop or custom woodworking environment.
