Project Watershed is seeking two Education Program Coordinators to support the delivery of our new youth environmental summer camp program (approx. ages 7–12). This role is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental education, outdoor learning, and working with children. Coordinators will help plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging, hands-on environmental programming focused on local ecosystems, stewardship, and community connection.
Location: Courtenay, BC (primarily outdoors at the Rotary Skypark)
Term: June 29 – August 7, 2026 (6 weeks – may be extended to 8 weeks)
Wage: $22/hour (funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program)
Hours: Full-time (35 hours/week, Monday–Friday)
In order to qualify for funding, applicants must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job
About Project Watershed
Project Watershed is a team of scientists, community educators, and stewardship professionals. We believe that community-engaged science can further stewardship of Comox Valley’s sensitive ecosystems and help us create an inclusive and thriving environment for our future communities. Since 1993, we’ve been working in partnership with scientists, First Nations, communities, various levels of governments and other NGOs to carry out ecological restoration, research and education.
Duties and responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver engaging environmental education programming, including developing lesson plans, activity kits, and weekly camp schedules.
- Lead and support four weeks of daily camp activities, including nature exploration, stewardship work, scientific monitoring, and outdoor games and crafts.
- Foster curiosity, environmental stewardship, and age-appropriate scientific learning through hands-on experiences.
- Ensure participant safety and positive group management while adapting activities to weather, tides, and participant needs.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, staff, volunteers, and guest presenters, and support coordination using digital tools (CRM, social media, etc.).
- Assist with program wrap-up, including cleaning and organizing materials, documenting activities (photos/videos), contributing to reports, and supporting evaluation and future program development.
Qualifications
- Background in environmental work, ecology, science
- Experience in environmental education, or outdoor recreation
- Experience working with children (education, camps, or similar settings)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Organizational skills and ability to adapt in dynamic environments
- Basic digital skills (social media, writing, or design tools) are an asset
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
