Full job description

The Accountant provides professional financial leadership, stewardship, and strategic guidance to the treatment centre. This role is responsible for all financial management, reporting, compliance, and internal controls, ensuring fiscal responsibility, transparency, and alignment with legislative, regulatory, licensing, and funding requirements. The Accountant leads the Finance Department and provides expert financial advice to Senior Management and the Board.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Oversight:

Provide full financial leadership of all treatment centre operations, including cash flow, banking, AP/AR, payroll, benefits, purchasing, asset management, and insurance.
Lead operational and capital budgeting processes; monitor performance against approved budgets.
Establish, maintain, and evaluate financial systems and internal controls.
Assess, monitor, and report on financial risk and liability.

Reporting, Compliance & Board Support:

Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Ensure compliance with contribution agreements, funder reporting requirements, and accounting standards.
Prepare and present financial reports monthly, quarterly, and annually as required.
Act as liaison between the Board, CAO, and Senior Leadership on fiscal matters.

Planning, Advocacy & Staff Leadership:

Lead Finance Department strategic and operational planning aligned with organizational priorities.
Provide leadership, coaching, and performance oversight for Finance Department staff.
Act as authorized liaison with funders, governments, auditors, and partner organizations.
Research and advise on funding opportunities and sustainability strategies.

Key Requirements:

We recognize the value of diverse educational experiences including cultural, academic, work, and lived experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) is recommended.
Minimum 12 years’ experience in nonprofit, treatment, healthcare, or public-sector finance.
Audit preparation, coordination, and financial policy development experience.
Proficiency with accounting systems (Sage); intermediate MS Excel.
Experience working with Indigenous organizations or treatment services is an asset.
Strong communication, presentation, and ethical standards.
Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
