Full job description

JOB OPENING: Snowmelter Technician / Assembler

Trecan Combustion Limited is looking for a Snowmelter Technician / Assembler to join our team in Hubley, NS.

In this role, you will assemble and test industrial snowmelting equipment, work from engineering drawings, and assist with the installation of mechanical and hydraulic components. You will be part of a skilled manufacturing team producing specialized equipment.

Trecan is a Canadian-owned company that has been designing and manufacturing industry-leading Snowmelters for over 30 years. Our equipment is used worldwide by airports, municipalities, contractors, and industrial customers. Trecan’s submerged combustion technology and advanced remote monitoring systems have established our products as the industry standard in snow melting equipment.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical and electrical work, problem-solving, travel, and customer interaction.

Job Responsibilities

Assemble and test industrial snowmelters and related equipment.
Read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and assembly drawings.
Install mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control system components.
Troubleshoot, inspect, and perform quality checks to ensure equipment meets Trecan standards.
Assist with product testing, commissioning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Travel to customer sites (when required) to commission, service, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment.
Provide operator training and technical support to customers.
Follow safe work procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Complete documentation, testing records, and service reports as required.

Qualifications

Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, maintenance, or manufacturing.
Ability to read technical drawings and use hand and power tools.
Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical systems is an asset.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to producing quality work.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to travel within Canada and the U.S. (approximately 25% during peak season).
Valid driver's licence.
Commitment to working safely in an industrial environment.

Working Conditions

Manufacturing and industrial shop environment with occasional outdoor and customer site work.
Frequent lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing, bending, kneeling, and standing.
Use of required PPE, including hearing and respiratory protection.

Schedule

When not travelling, the regular schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Union Information

This position is unionized and covered under the collective agreement between Trecan and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, Local 56 (the “Union”).

Preference will be given to qualified internal applicants. The successful applicant will be required to become, or remain, a member in good standing with the Union.
