The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct, client-centered care under the direction of regulated health professionals (Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses & Licensed Practical Nurses). HCAs deliver care in home, community & lodge settings, supporting individuals to maintain independence, dignity & quality of life. Key responsibilities include: Provide personal care & assistance with activities of daily living in alignment with individualized care plans. Support mobility, transfers, feeding, hygiene, grooming & dressing. Deliver respite support to families & caregivers. Provide emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, friendly & sincere, and interacting in a positive & optimistic manner. Performing authorized health-related tasks as outlined in the care plan (medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, dressing changes & therapeutic exercises). Provide housekeeping services that are essential to the Client's Activities of Daily Living in their immediate living space to increase the prospects for maintaining the client in their Home/Community. Promote patient- and family-centered care grounded in respect, compassion & professionalism. HCAs play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality & culturally responsive care while upholding the values, standards & vision of Assisted Living Alberta & the regulatory expectations of CLHA. This position is about 67 km SW outside of Calgary City Limits. Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Health Care Aides (HCAs) are regulated health professionals who must meet the hiring, education, and licensure requirements established by the College of LPNs & HCAs (CLHA). The CLHA determines education, certification, registration, and licensure requirements in accordance with the Health Professions Act (HPA). HCAs are responsible for maintaining active registration and meeting ongoing regulatory requirements, including entry-to-practice standards, continuing competence expectations, and adherence to the CLHA Code of Ethics. The candidate must have Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) from Heart and Stroke Foundation within the last 12 months. The candidate must have Basic First Aid (Level 1) within the last 36 months. In addition, the candidate must be effective in verbal and written English, have well developed time management skills & demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community, or health care facilities. This candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as a member of a team. Handling, moving and lifting heavy up to 50lbs of awkward equipment and/or individuals are required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference is given to candidates who have minimum one year Home Care and/or long-term care experience.
