Full job description

Ideal job for the semi-retired and those interested in working for the cause of a local charity.

Represent the Alberta Cancer Foundation as a Donor Appreciation & Fundraising Ambassador. Increase public support for Alberta's cancer care and oncological innovations as you engage locals in meaningful face-to-face dialogues.

During the warmer months, some days you will be walking door-to-door inspiring Edmontonians to support the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Other days, you will drive to the homes of current and recent supporters thanking them, at their front door, for making a difference with their monthly donation. You will ask these donors to renew or increase their monthly donation. Kilometers and insurance are reimbursed as you use your own vehicle to visit donors. F/T and P/T available. Enjoy working afternoons and evenings, Monday through Friday, and earlier shifts on weekends. We never do this past sunset and end by 8:00 pm the latest.

From October through April, engage Edmontonians as you stand or sit next to a display that is set up inside of a supermarket. Conduct awareness in an inspirational manner that increases the Alberta Cancer Foundation's monthly donor base.

Pays $20 per hour. While the job is not commission-based pay, you can benefit by a periodic bonus.

We do this by developing passionate and well-informed teams that inspire Canadians to provide consistent donations, over the long term, for their chosen cause.

About the Donor Appreciation & Fundraising Position

If you have academic or work experience in social services, fundraising, customer service or retail sales, you likely have transferable skills that would make you a successful Fundraising or Stewardship Ambassador! In particular, this position has been of interest to seniors, cause-driven people with call center and sales experience or experience in the not-for-profit and volunteer sectors.

The Cause

The Alberta Cancer Foundation is the official fundraising organization for the seventeen cancer centers that are spread throughout the province. The cancer centers make available patient care services within a relatively short distance from the patient's home. The two largest cancer centers, located in Edmonton and in Calgary, are at the forefront of new and exciting oncological innovations.

An ideal job for people who are passionate about, or would like to develop an interest in, local cancer patient care.

More information about the charitable cause will be available during the interview process.

Your Role

A very important part of this Donor Appreciation and Fundraising position is making a genuine and informed expression of gratitude.

The fundraising aspect involves either:

- During the summer, asking the supporter to renew or increase their monthly donations in support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation and acquiring new donors door-to-door.

- During the winter, indoors, asking the general public to become monthly donors in support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Supporters truly appreciate having a representative go out of their way to visit them on their home's doorstep.

Shift Times

The Stewardship and door-to-door hours, during the summer, run between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm Monday through Friday. Earlier shifts are available on weekends. Shifts move to an earlier start and stop time as the sun begins to set earlier in the fall.

Use of your personal vehicle

When working at a venue, you would need a personal vehicle to get to work every day as you bring a small display and stool with you.

During the warmer months, you would require the use of your own vehicle to visit current monthly donors at their homes. Your mileage would be reimbursed as per the Canada Revenue Agency's recommended rate of $0.73 per kilometer, typically one third of which tends to offset your cost of gas. You would not require commercial vehicle insurance, but you would need occasional business use coverage on your vehicle through your current insurance provider, which typically costs between $15 and $25 per month. We provide a monthly vehicle insurance reimbursement of up to $40.00 to offset that cost.

Safety

We have several safety policies and protocols in place to limit hazards associated with working alone.

What you bring

While personability and personal integrity are necessary virtues in Donor Appreciation & Stewardship Ambassadors, previous experience as a fundraiser is not necessary as F2F Direct Consulting provides extensive training.

Compensation

Starting wage is $20/hr and does not pay commission, but does pay a periodic bonus.

Part-time and Full-time positions available (18 - 30 hours per week).

Paid sick days after about three months and full individual health benefits after six months.

And, it's (generally) Monday to Friday.

It supports the kind of world I'd like to be a part of building and the kind of transformation I'd like to see happening in our competitive, lonely, consumer-driven society. A society where we can all embrace being true citizens and stewards of this planet and of each other.
