Long-Term Industrial Work | Remote Camp | 14/7 Rotation | 12-Hour Shifts
We are seeking experienced Mechanical professionals for long-term industrial work at a major facility in Northern Alberta. These opportunities support ongoing construction, expansion, maintenance, commissioning, and related field activities within a large-scale industrial environment.
We are currently hiring for the following positions under this posting:
- Mechanical Supervisors
- Journeyperson Pipefitters
- Rig Welders
- Mechanical Apprentices
Compensation
- Journeyperson Positions: Up to $54.27 per hour employee rate, with rates varying by role, qualifications, and experience.
- Rig Welders: $122.54 per hour DSP (independent contractor) rate.
- Supervisory Positions: Up to $58.50 per hour employee rate or $82.50 DSP rate, with rates varying by role, qualifications, and experience.
Schedule & Camp
- 14 days on / 7 days off
- 12-hour shifts
- Long-term remote camp work
- Flights provided from Edmonton and Calgary
- Overtime opportunities available
Earning Potential
For employees, overtime is paid after 8 hours worked in a day and after 40 hours worked in a week. Candidates have the opportunity to earn substantial overtime while working 12-hour shifts on a 14-day rotation.
Position Overview
Mechanical work will support industrial construction and field execution and may include piping installation and fit-up, structural steel installation, welding, equipment setting, testing, commissioning support, maintenance, and turnover activities.
Responsibilities will vary depending on the position, with opportunities available across field leadership, pipefitting, welding, and apprenticeship roles.
What You'll Be Doing
Depending on the position, responsibilities may include:
- Performing and supporting industrial piping, mechanical, structural steel, and welding activities
- Installing and fitting process piping, valves, supports, spools, flanges, and associated mechanical components
- Performing pipe fit-up and preparing assemblies for welding
- Supporting structural steel installation and equipment setting activities
- Reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, isometrics, work packages, field sketches, and other project documentation
- Performing or supporting hydrotesting, pressure testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairs, and deficiency correction
- Working with pipefitters, welders, riggers, scaffolders, QA/QC personnel, and field supervision to coordinate work
- Maintaining required quality standards and ensuring work is completed in accordance with project requirements
- Completing required documentation and supporting turnover and project closeout activities
- Maintaining tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a safe and organized condition
- Following all applicable safety procedures, permits, work practices, and site requirements
- Supporting work in both active operating facilities and new-construction environments
Leadership Responsibilities
For Mechanical Foremen / Supervisors, responsibilities may additionally include:
- Leading and coordinating pipefitting, mechanical, structural steel, and welding crews
- Planning daily work activities and coordinating manpower, tools, equipment, materials, permits, and work fronts
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, work packages, isometrics, and project schedules
- Coordinating field activities with Superintendents, Project Managers, QA/QC, client representatives, and other trades
- Monitoring productivity, workmanship, safety, and schedule progress
- Identifying field issues and working with the appropriate personnel to develop practical solutions
- Providing direction, support, and mentorship to Journeypersons, apprentices, and other field personnel
- Maintaining a visible, hands-on presence in the field and assisting crews when required
- Supporting the safe and efficient execution of sustaining, capital, and new-construction work
Pipefitter Responsibilities
For Journeyperson Pipefitters, responsibilities may additionally include:
- Performing industrial piping installation, fit-up, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair work
- Installing and fitting process piping, valves, flanges, spools, supports, and related components
- Working from isometrics, drawings, specifications, work packages, and field sketches
- Measuring, cutting, aligning, and preparing piping components for installation and welding
- Supporting hydrotesting, pressure testing, commissioning, and start-up activities
- Completing deficiency repairs and supporting turnover requirements
- Coordinating with welders, riggers, scaffolders, and field supervision
- Maintaining accurate fit-up, quality workmanship, and proper housekeeping
- Providing guidance and mentorship to apprentices and less-experienced personnel
Rig Welder Responsibilities
For Rig Welders, responsibilities may additionally include:
- Performing high-quality welding on industrial piping, structural steel, and mechanical installations
- Completing welds in accordance with approved welding procedures, drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Performing welding-related fit-up and working closely with pipefitters and other trades
- Inspecting welding equipment and maintaining equipment, consumables, and work areas
- Supporting weld repairs, testing, inspections, deficiency correction, and turnover activities
- Working closely with QA/QC and field supervision to meet production and quality requirements
- Maintaining safe work practices and ensuring completed work meets applicable project and client standards
Apprentice Responsibilities
For Mechanical Apprentices, responsibilities may additionally include:
- Assisting Journeypersons, Welders, Foremen, and Supervisors with mechanical field activities
- Supporting pipefitting, structural steel, equipment setting, and general mechanical installation work
- Assisting with material handling, piping preparation, fit-up preparation, tool setup, and equipment preparation
- Learning to read and interpret drawings, isometrics, work packages, and project documentation
- Developing practical skills under the direction of qualified trade personnel
- Maintaining tools, materials, work areas, and housekeeping standards
- Following established safe work practices, procedures, and site requirements
What You Bring
Qualifications will vary depending on the position. Candidates should have:
- Previous industrial mechanical, pipefitting, welding, construction, or related experience
- Valid Journeyperson certification, apprenticeship registration, welding qualifications, or relevant technical training, as applicable to the position
- Industrial experience in oil and gas, SAGD, oilsands, heavy industrial, or similar environments is an asset
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, isometrics, work packages, and field documentation as required by the role
- Strong understanding of safe work practices and quality requirements
- Strong communication, teamwork, and practical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-trade industrial environment
- Valid safety tickets and site-access requirements, where applicable
- Ability to work a remote camp-based 14/7 rotation with 12-hour shifts
- For Foreman/Supervisor positions, demonstrated experience leading crews and coordinating field activities
- For Rig Welder positions, applicable welding qualifications and demonstrated industrial welding experience
- All successful candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment test for drug and alcohol, including cannabis
