Mental Health & Community Support Worker

In this role, you will provide person-centered mental health support to an individual in their home and community, empowering them to live with dignity, independence, and purpose. You’ll work autonomously while exercising strong judgment, professionalism, and emotional intelligence. Position Details

Schedule:

Position - Saturdays & Sundays, 8am - 4pm (16hrs per week)
Rate: starting $18.75; after 3 month probationary period wage increased to $19.25
Location: West Edmonton
Role Type: Independent Support Worker

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain healthy, supportive relationships grounded in dignity, respect, and trust
Provide trauma-informed, person-centered mental health support tailored to the individual’s strengths, goals, and preferences
Support the individual in managing and maintaining a safe, organized, and supportive home environment
Facilitate meaningful in-home and community-based activities that align with the individual’s interests
Introduce creative, enriching, and socially inclusive community experiences
Promote independence, empowerment, motivation, and self-regulation through supportive coaching and encouragement
Ensure safe environments and respond calmly, professionally, and effectively during crises or challenging situations
Maintain clear boundaries and demonstrate consistent professionalism, compassion, reliability, and sound judgment
Collaborate with relevant supports and follow care plans, policies, and documentation requirements as applicable

Qualifications & Skills

Required Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Mental Health, Social Services, Psychology, Community Support, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Qualifications:

Experience with crisis prevention and de-escalation
Training in mental health first aid, non-violent crisis intervention, or similar
Knowledge of community resources and social inclusion practices
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience supporting individuals with mental health needs
Strong understanding of trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based care
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in dynamic situations
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
A vehical is required as a term of employment. Proof of a valid class 5 drivers license and vehical insurance demonstrating 2 million liability insurance is required. ***Applicant must be a licensed driver for a minimum of 1 year
Must provide Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector search) current within 30 days date of issue and Standard 3 year Driver’s Abstract (current within 3 months from date of issue)

Important:
Applicants who do not have a roadworthy vehicle, proof of valid vehicle insurance with 2 million liability and who have not been a licensed driver for a minimum of 1 year will not be considered.

Expected hours: 16.0 – 32.0 per week
