GPR Scanning Technician

Work – Concrete Scanning, Cutting, Coring, Demolition & Removal (Cutting Division)
Duration – Full-Time Permanent
Location – Edmonton, AB (Base – St. Albert shop)
Project Locations – Primarily Edmonton and surrounding, with periodic out-of-town work (2–7 days, ~15–30% of annual workload) across Northern Alberta, Eastern BC, and Saskatchewan.
Pay – $28–$40/hr, based on capability and years of experience

Job Summary

Task Concrete Cutting & Construction is a specialty concrete subcontractor delivering complex concrete scopes on industrial and commercial projects across Alberta. With service offerings spanning complete concrete flatworks, above and below-grade structural and infrastructure services, and a fully developed saw-cutting, coring, demolition, and removal division, we are a team that does serious work on serious projects.

Role Overview

We are looking for a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Scanning Technician to run our concrete scanning operations on commercial and industrial sites across Alberta. Your scans are the first step before any saw-cutting, coring, demolition, or removal: they tell the crew exactly where it is safe to cut. Working under our Cutting Division Manager, you will operate our scanning equipment day to day, and step in alongside our cutting and coring crews when scanning work is light.

Accuracy is everything in this role. Reading the data correctly and documenting it clearly is the difference between a clean job and a costly miss. We are open to everyone from operators with solid GPR familiarity to seasoned scanning pros, and pay scales with what you bring. For the right person, there is a clear path to help build and eventually run a growing scanning division.

Never scanned concrete? If you have run GPR or subsurface locating in another field (utility locating, geophysical or geotechnical survey, NDT or ultrasonic testing, environmental, archaeology, mining, or UXO), your core skill transfers here. The medium changes from soil to concrete; the work stays the same: read the scan accurately, mark it right, and document it clearly. We handle the concrete-specific training. You bring the eye for reading subsurface data and the discipline to report it.

Responsibilities

Operate our GSSI Flex NX concrete scanning system (and any other GPR scanning devices we obtain or rent) to locate embedded hazards before cutting, coring, demolition, and removal
Accurately interpret scan data and clearly mark and communicate findings to the crew
Produce clear, accurate work orders, job notes, and reports (via GoCanvas and Jobber)
Operate our electric core drills and support our saw and core operators and labourers when scanning work is not required
Operate a truck and trailer, cube van, cargo van, or pick-up to and from the shop and job sites across city, rural, commercial, and industrial environments
Daily equipment cleaning, routine preventative maintenance, and basic repair; inspect and document equipment condition
Participate in job preparation, equipment and material loading and unloading, and other cutting-division duties as required

Requirements

Familiarity operating GPR scanning equipment (capable beginners considered; experienced operators preferred, with pay scaled to capability)
Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately read and interpret scan data
Clear written communication for work orders, job notes, and reports
Valid Class 5 Non-GDL driver's licence with a clean 3-year driver's abstract
Ability to obtain and maintain industrial site access (safety tickets, drug & alcohol testing)
CSTS 2020 (free, online, non-expiring via ACSA)
Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to changing daily work
Saturday availability as project scheduling requires
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Must be able to clear all industrial/plant access requirements

Assets — Nice to Have

Experience operating core drills, slab/flat saws, hand saws, wall saws, ring saws, or wire saws (cutting experience extends your role and earns a hybrid premium)
Experience on industrial or energy sector projects in Alberta
Familiarity with field job-management tools (GoCanvas, Jobber, or similar)
First Aid / OHSA
Silica awareness training
