Community Engagement Coordinator
Full time (35 hours per week)

The current salary range for this position is $50,000 to $60,000 per year, plus health benefits.
This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office or at events, with up to two days per week working from home.
For 50 years, the Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA) has been providing Albertans with current, practical and plain language information and education about the laws and legal processes that impact their lives. We provide information in multiple formats including websites, print, videos, webinars and e-courses. Our multidisciplinary team has training and experience in law, plain language writing, web and graphic design, web maintenance and evaluation best practices. We're looking for a Community Engagement Coordinator to join our team. You are a person who will enjoy meeting people, building relationships and helping others discover trusted legal information. In this role, you’ll serve as an ambassador for CPLEA, strengthening relationships with community partners and promoting our resources through community engagement, outreach and communications activities across Alberta. What you will be doing
- Building and maintaining relationships with community partners and key stakeholders.
- Representing CPLEA at community events, tradeshows, conferences, information sessions, presentations, stakeholder meetings and other public outreach activities.
- Identifying public outreach opportunities, attending community events and expanding CPLEA’s network.
- Planning and coordinating outreach campaigns, thinking about audiences for mail-outs and cross-promotional opportunities targeted for community organizations, umbrella organizations or associations and networks.
- Contributing to the creation of CPLEA’s newsletters and other communications to stakeholders.
- Working with other CPLEA staff on social media campaigns and posts.
- Assisting with webinars, including recruiting and corresponding with panelists.
- Creating and maintaining a contact database to support ongoing relationship management.
- Coordinating and ensuring CPLEA's community engagement, outreach and communications activities are consistent and aligned with our communications strategy and strategic priorities.
Your qualifications, skills, abilities and interests
- A diploma or degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business administration or a related field.
- 1 to 2 years of relevant experience is preferred. We also welcome applications from recent graduates with relevant part-time, internship or volunteer experience.
- You are approachable, enthusiastic and confident in building relationships with a wide range of people.
- You enjoy networking, collaborating with colleagues and community partners and representing CPLEA in the community.
- A proactive approach, you enjoy identifying opportunities, following up with organization partners or contacts and keeping engagement, outreach and communications activities moving forward.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for developing engaging communications, outreach activities and community partnerships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear, engaging and plain language communications for a variety of audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, social media, digital communication tools and new software and technologies.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team.
- A valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle for attending conferences, community events, tradeshows and meetings.
- The ability to lift at least 25 pounds (needed for setting up at public events).
- The ability to occasionally work outside of regular business hours and travel to various locations within Alberta as needed.
Skills or experiences that would be assets (but are not expected)
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
- Experience in the non-profit, public or community-based sector.
- Experience implementing communications strategies and strategic priorities.
- Knowledge of Alberta's community services sector and other community networks.
- Experience representing an organization at conferences, tradeshows, community events or presentations.
- Experience working with or supporting people experiencing barriers to accessing services, information or justice.
- Legal training or knowledge is not expected or required for this position.
