CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER (COO) & GENERAL COUNSEL

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for leading operational performance across Siksika Group's diverse portfolio of companies. Reporting to the CEO, the COO will translate strategic vision into operational execution while ensuring each business operates efficiently, compliantly, and in alignment with the organization's long-term objectives.

This role requires a collaborative and commercially minded executive with strong operational leadership experience, a solid understanding of governance and legal frameworks, and the ability to build alignment across multiple business units. The COO will serve as a trusted legal counsel and strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team, providing sound judgment and guidance on operational, legal, governance, risk, and business matters. The successful candidate will leverage their legal knowledge and experience to identify and mitigate risk, navigate complex agreements and regulatory requirements, strengthen governance practices, and support informed executive decision-making.

The successful candidate will foster operational excellence while balancing commercial priorities with Indigenous values, community objectives, and long-term organizational interests. They will bring the credibility and judgment required to operate across a complex portfolio, build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure the organization is positioned for sustainable growth and continued success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Execution

Translate the CEO's vision into actionable operational strategies across the organization.
Lead execution of strategic growth initiatives, partnerships, and acquisitions.
Monitor organizational performance through key performance indicators (KPIs).
Identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and long-term business performance.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

Establish governance frameworks, reporting structures, and accountability systems.
Partner with legal advisors to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and Indigenous regulations.
Support contract oversight, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management.
Apply legal and governance principles to operational decision-making and policy development.

Operational Leadership

Oversee day-to-day operations across all subsidiaries and business units.
Drive operational efficiency, cost management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure consistent service delivery and operational standards across the organization.
Promote collaboration and alignment between operating companies.

Financial & Business Performance

Partner with finance leadership to oversee budgets, profitability, and financial performance.
Identify opportunities to improve margins and operational efficiency.
Manage operational and financial risks across the organization.
Support sustainable growth and long-term value creation.

Leadership & Community Engagement

Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing leadership team.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and culturally respectful workplace.
Build strong relationships with community leaders, government, and industry stakeholders.
Ensure operations align with Indigenous values, community priorities, and cultural awareness.

QUALIFICATIONS

Legal background (LLB, JD, or equivalent).
Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, or a related discipline.
MBA or equivalent graduate degree is considered an asset.
5–7+ years of progressive executive leadership experience in operations or general management.
Proven experience leading multi-entity or group of companies structures.
Experience operating within regulated or multi-jurisdictional environments.
Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
Demonstrated financial leadership, including budgeting and performance management.
Experience building strategic partnerships across government, industry, and community stakeholders.
