Manager, Projects – Field Division

We are currently seeking a Manager, Projects – Field Division. This position will provide leadership and oversight for the execution of all Altex field projects, supporting project teams, Field Superintendents, workforce planning, labour relations, customer requirements, and the successful delivery of construction, maintenance, turnaround, and repair projects across Canada.
Position Summary
As the Manager, Projects – Field Division, you will be responsible for supporting the overall planning, coordination, staffing, and execution of all Altex field projects. This role works closely with Field Operations management, Project Coordinators, Field Superintendents, Human Resources, Engineering, Quality, customers, and union representatives to ensure projects are properly staffed, supported, and executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
The successful candidate will provide leadership across multiple job sites, coach and mentor field teams, support labour relations and union matters, oversee project contracts and labour rates, and assist with scheduling and workforce planning across the Field Division.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support the planning and execution of field construction, maintenance, turnaround, and repair projects across multiple customer sites.
- Provide leadership and support to project teams and Field Superintendents on all active and upcoming job sites.
- Oversee workforce planning and scheduling across field projects to ensure appropriate manpower and supervision.
- Coordinate manpower requirements, mobilizations, demobilizations, rotations, and project schedules across multiple job sites.
- Coach, mentor, and develop Project Coordinators, Field Superintendents, and other members of the Field Division.
- Provide guidance and support to field teams when dealing with employee performance, workplace concerns, project challenges, and customer issues.
- Participate in union negotiations and collective bargaining as required.
- Work with leadership in the interpretation, administration, and consistent application of applicable collective agreements.
- Assist with the management and resolution of union grievances, disputes, and labour relations matters.
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with union representatives.
- Ensure collective agreements, employment agreements, project agreements, and customer requirements are consistently understood and applied across field operations.
- Oversee and maintain field contracts, project rates, premiums, allowances, and project-specific requirements.
- Support project estimating, budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and financial performance.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, manpower, productivity, deliverables, and overall project performance.
- Identify operational, labour, scheduling, contractual, and project risks and work with the appropriate teams to develop solutions.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and provide support in resolving project or site concerns.
- Coordinate with customers regarding project requirements, manpower needs, schedules, changes in scope, and operational concerns.
- Work closely with Human Resources on workforce planning, employee relations, performance management, discipline, and field staffing requirements.
- Support the recruitment and selection of field supervision and key project personnel.
- Ensure field teams have the resources, information, documentation, and support required to successfully perform their roles.
- Promote consistency in processes and expectations across all Altex field job sites.
- Support and reinforce Altex safety, quality, customer, and operational expectations across all projects.
- Participate in project planning, kickoff meetings, progress meetings, and post-project reviews.
- Support technical and operational requirements associated with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, air coolers, pressure piping, fabrication, repairs, and industrial maintenance.
- Review customer specifications, scopes of work, drawings, contracts, and project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable customer requirements, codes, standards, quality requirements, collective agreements, contracts, and Altex policies and procedures.
- Support QA/QC documentation, turnover requirements, and regulatory requirements where applicable.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in industrial field services, construction, maintenance, turnarounds, fabrication, or project management.
- Demonstrated Project Management experience leading industrial shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance projects from planning and mobilization through execution and completion.
- Previous experience managing or leading industrial field projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Experience with collective agreement administration, union negotiations, grievances, or labour relations is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with workforce planning, manpower scheduling, and coordinating resources across multiple job sites.
- Experience managing or overseeing contracts, labour rates, project budgets, and commercial requirements.
- Experience coaching and mentoring supervisors, coordinators, and field teams.
- Strong understanding of industrial shutdowns, turnarounds, maintenance, and field construction environments.
- Experience with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, air coolers, pressure piping, fabrication, and industrial maintenance is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of applicable ASME, API, CSA, ABSA, and provincial pressure equipment requirements is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and resource coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and support multiple projects and job sites simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, conflict-resolution, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service and relationship-management skills.
- Engineering, construction management, business, trades, or other relevant technical education is considered an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset but is not required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and willingness to travel throughout Canada.
Work Environment
- Full-time position based in Edmonton.
- Approximately 95% of the work is performed in Edmonton, primarily in an office environment with regular interaction with Altex fabrication and field operations.
- Approximately 5% travel to customer locations and industrial job sites throughout Canada, as required.
