Position Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at e4c’s Head Start program, serving children ages 2.8 to 5 years. The role performs routine cleaning, groundskeeping, and minor maintenance to ensure the facility and outdoor spaces are safe, functional, and well-maintained, supporting a positive environment for children, families, and staff.

Schedule

Monday to Friday; 40 hours per week
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends, with adjusted scheduling as required.
Participation in an on-call rotation may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine cleaning, custodial, groundskeeping, and minor maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained facility.
Conduct minor repairs, assemble equipment and furniture, and coordinate building maintenance with the Program Manager and external service providers.
Monitor building conditions, conduct routine safety inspections, and report maintenance, repair, and safety concerns.
Support facility operations by overseeing deliveries, setting up meeting spaces, transporting supplies, and maintaining satellite sites.
Maintain janitorial inventory, order supplies, and support accurate coordination of contracted maintenance services.
Provide on-call support for facility security incidents and assist with emergency, health, and safety procedures in collaboration with Occupational Health and Safety.
Provide direction and support to the part-time Custodial Assistant, participate in team meetings, and contribute to a safe, collaborative, and well-functioning work environment.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required

Certification

Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
WHMIS

Experience

1+ year of experience in a custodial, maintenance, or facilities support role.
Experience with commercial or industrial cleaning practices
Experience performing minor building and facility repairs.
Experience in an educational setting is considered an asset.
Experience working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team is considered an asset.
