Position Summary
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment for patrons, clients, staff, and property occupants. This role supports daily site operations through visible security presence, access control, incident response, emergency support, patrols, reporting, and professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with property standards, site rules, and regulations in a fair, professional, and reasonable manner.
- Use tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment when interacting with patrons, clients, staff, and members of the public.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide First Aid, CPR, or AED support until medical professionals arrive.
- Maintain and enforce access control procedures, including line management and customer service support where required.
- Follow emergency procedures, post orders, and standard operating procedures at all times.
- Address trespassers and unauthorized persons on the property in a safe, fair, and professional manner.
- Conduct regular foot patrols of the property and remain visible and alert throughout the shift.
- Investigate incidents, occurrences, and suspicious activity, escalating matters as required.
- Maintain a detailed memo book and prepare clear, accurate incident and occurrence reports.
- Help maintain the peace, safety, and security of all patrons, clients, staff, and property occupants.
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems and report concerns in accordance with site procedures.
- Use de-escalation techniques during emergency, crisis, or conflict situations.
- Assist emergency services and law enforcement personnel when required.
- Support daily site operations as needed, required, or directed by management.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Alberta Security Licence is required
- Valid First Aid certification is required
- Minimum 1 year of prior security experience is required
- Must be willing and able to stand, walk, and conduct foot patrols for extended periods, including 8- to 12-hour shifts
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills, including the ability to complete clear and accurate reports
- Able to take a proactive approach to onsite situations while following direction from management and designated staff
- Comfortable responding to stressful or emergency situations and making sound decisions under pressure
- Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, including indoor and outdoor conditions as required
- Comfortable working in busy, highly populated areas while maintaining observational awareness
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in loss prevention or retail security is considered an asset.
- Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Able to retain relevant site information, follow procedures, and accept constructive feedback when provided.
- Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to work productively and efficiently as part of a team.
